Presentation Critique
I enjoyed going to the town of Randolph Selectmen Meeting. I felt that Selectmen Bill Alexopoulos was on the right track and had good arguments and points throughout his whole Presentation. However, I noticed a few things that, hopefully, might improve it. For his introduction, Bill mentioned about how race relations are so tense and rocky are due in part to the inflexible and judgmental ideas of white people. I dont what he meant by judgmental ideas that white people have? I think if Bill cleared up what he meant by this, the Introduction will be better. I made some comments on his Presentation and hopefully they will be helpful to Him.
In your first PowerPoint slide, in your first sentence, you mention stereotypes programmed into their minds since childhood. What kinds of stereotypes are programmed and how did people get those ideas? Also, why is it hard for people to have a stereotype about white people? There is a part in your Presentation that Bill talk about a lady divulging some stereotypes against blacks and she makes judgments based on what she has been taught in the past. Do you know how she was taught in the past? If you do, then maybe it is a good idea to include it in your Presentation.
For your second slide, He had a quote which said “He is black and I am white, and without meaning or trying to, I must profit from his darkness.” What is the reason why she must profit from blacks and what is significant about this quote? Bill also mentioned “While black people are in a social standstill, whites have always sped their way into the future.” I know what you mean by this, but I think other members of the audience might be a little confused by what you are trying to say. Maybe he could mention that, in terms of social status, whites generally live a better life than blacks, or why
