Living to Ride
Who actually invented the first snowboard? This is a question no one really knows the answer to, but we do no that they were a hero. Who ever would have thought that strapping there feet on a piece of plywood would turn into major sport and even a so called lifestyle. Im sure that Tim Burton or one of the other snowboard inventors didnt expect snowboarding to grow even close to as much as it has.
The progression of snowboarding is one like no other. It started off in 1929 with a thin piece of plywood and rope to strap your feet in. Now theyre made of complex types of carbon, plastic and fiberglass. When snowboarding first started it was just going down a small hill on a piece of plywood. Now you can go higher, bigger and faster then anyone ever thought. Dropping off a 30 foot cliff into fresh powder is nothing out of ordinary. Its also probably one of the best feelings anyone could ever experience.
Since snowboarding has become such a huge sport almost all mountains had to give in

and let snowboarders ride there. In the early stages many mountains only let skiers ride the terrain but as snowboarding progressed they had no choice but to let them in. Now with the exception of Alta almost all mountains around the world allow snowboarding.
Not only has snowboarding become a huge sport, but it has become a lifestyle. The lifestyle is about doing what you love, being in the outdoors and pushing the limits of your body according deceased snowboarding legend Jeff Anderson. The typical snowboarders dream is to live on the mountain, board everyday and on the off time work at the mountain. Of course you might be living out of your car for a while but you will at least be enjoying yourself.
Snowboarding also brought a different style to the mountain sports. Using surfing and skateboarding roots it brought a street style course to the slopes. Jumps and rails became too easy and didnt have enough consequence for the boarding scene. Now many competitions have street style rails with stairs built along the sides for added consequence. Snowboarding will continue to push the limits of the human body and further the progression of the sport.
