Women have accomplished many great things since 1914 they have got better educated and more competed. If it wasnt for some women we would never been recognized as “persons.” In 1982 for the first time a woman was appointed to become the first woman appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada that woman was Bertha Wilson. Bertha Wilson should be recognized as having made a contibution to Canadian Society.

Bertha Wilson was born in Scotland, on 1923. She immigrated to Canada in 1949. In 1955 she enrolled in University to study law, and she completed her LL.B.

One of her contributions to the Canadian Society was that when the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, set out by the government, came into effect, Wilson went on to become one of the greatest supporters of the Charter. She wanted the rights applied to all, not just the chosen. Some of the most used writings by the Supreme Court in its rulings were by Bertha Wilson.
