She got the surgery and ended up with only a tiny stump. She had a lot of visitors.
There were tons of people interviewing her in the hospital. She couldnt go home because people camped out on her lawn waiting to interview her. People were giving her flowers, balloons, and letters.
The first time she got back on the surf it was really hard for her to get up because of using only one arm. She tried really hard and got up a few times on the first day. Every time she got up it got easier the next time. She had to work harder and harder each day to get good enough to get back into competitions. They had an auction to raise money for her from her sponsors and her brothers sponsors to raise money for her because she didnt have a lot of money in her family. They raised lots of money in the auction.
She started going in competitions with one arm. She did well in all of them. Then she got enough money for a fake arm. It hung in her room. She would get this thing called phantom pain, where it would feel like her arm was still there but it really wasnt.
She was a guest on MTV; she was on Oprah, gave out awards in Grammys for Christian music awards and was nominated for awards for top most comeback award for womens sports. She went to help poor children and kids who lost limbs off their body.
If you want to find out what happens at the end read Bethany Hamiltons Soul Surfer. I really enjoyed reading it so you should to.
She believed in god a lot more than a normal person. She prayed every day and went to church every service that she could go to. She talked to everybody at church and was friends with everybody. Believed in God herself nobody told her she had to but she did. She was in a Christian group for kids who were devoted to god and would always believe in him even if he did something they did not like to them. She would pray to god every time before she would go to surf. God to her was like her dad or her conscience.
My reaction to this book was huge. It really frightened me about her arm. It has changed my faith in god. It went up a mile higher.
