Ambition
Brittnee MarshallProfessor TengEnglish 100 – 5pmTuesday, January 27, 2015Ambitious         Ambition is an enthusiastic and excessive desire for elevation, honor, dominance, power or the attainment of something. The special thing about ambition is that no matter the age or cultural background it is something that we all have impulsively. When thinking about ambitious people, we think dreamers. These are those that have hopes of conquering and ruling the world single handedly also, having everything work out just the way they planned. The song “Warm Winds” by SZA, an American song-writer gives listeners a look into the soft, beautiful melody that reminds us to reach beyond the stars. In the first verse she sings “Doubting only made your visions blurry, you’re better off just looking in the mirror” SZA explains that rather than doubting your ambition and dreams, look into the mirror and validate the real you and your limitation. It may sound a bit cliché, but if you think you can achieve it, you will. This tune proves that ambition can be a driving force for success or a road to failure. Through our ambitious accomplishments we can set goals and find ourselves and our God-given talents.        The first line of the song starts off as “Hey glory child, don’t you worry; stuttering, shaken off your fear” this quote explicates that the best suffer from fear, even if it’s deep down inside. Doubt is the main theme for the first section of the song. Even the most perfect people stress at the smaller things in life. As a student it is easy to relate to this line, in college we tend to focus on achieving amazing grades in our courses, while juggling personal responsibilities as well. The mentors we look up to seem to have it all together but we can’t forget that they struggled conquering their goals relative to us. From experiences we grow and from every growth spurt, new strengths are derived. Even though, we might stutter under pressure, it’s not as big of a deal as it may seem. It is important to trust yourself, your intuition and your nature, those qualities are fundamental to satisfaction and harmony with one’s self. It’s bad to fear our original thoughts but we need learn how to trust accordingly. SZA wants individuals to be bold about our convictions and recognize our nature whether it is good or bad.
