GOD SEES THE TRUTH BUT WAITS
By Leo Tolstoy
On the first glance of the material, I got a little bit hesitant whether I will continue to read the story of Leo Tolstoy’s, “God Sees the Truth but Waits” because of the words Vladimir, Dmitrich, Aksionov found in the first paragraph of the story had found me unlikable. But, my brain whispers me to just continue to read. And so, I did!
The whole story was brilliant. This is one of the best short stories I had read that I loved. It had really engrossed me as a reader so that I will finish it to read until the last page of the story.
Well, this story teaches a moral lesson from all walks of life. It expresses truth based on experiences just like this quotation that had touched me as I quote, “It seems that only God can know the truth; it is to Him alone we must appeal, and from Him alone expect mercy.” God is omnipotent. He knows what is best for us. However, when His follower turns back against Him, He will never forsake us instead He will show His mercy and compassion to us. God may feel disappointed for our misdoings and by taking Him for granted most of the time; but expect at the end that He will give His undying love for us.
The character of Vladimir, the antagonist of the story exemplifies the men and women in a society. There are moments in their lives that things happen unexpectedly. Thus, when that unexpected situation occurs, their life becomes topsy-turvy. So, they turn their self to their loved ones, friends, colleagues, etc. for their understanding, concern, and even sympathy. Unexpectedly, it turned out differently and that’s the moment that individuals like Vladimir realized who his/ her real family and friends are. So, when these things happen, we know where we can turn to, and that is God, the God of Vladimir who has shown mercy towards him.
In the end, life is unpredictable. Wise decisions and fervent prayers are our life’s weapon in every endeavor that we made. God is always there wherever we may be. He sees us. All that we can do is just talk to Him always because He knows the desire of our kind heart. He is merciful.
