Based on the historical evidence of the time period between 1840 and 1860, it is reasonable to state that slavery was indeed the dominating reality of all southern life. By analyzing the social and economic aspects of the decades leading to the Civil War, it is clear that southern lifestyle was built around the institution of slavery. From the social ladder to the financial prosperity of the region, the stability of southern United States was largely based on the slaves and the quantity of them.
