Ford Model TEssay Preview: Ford Model TReport this essayThe 1920s were a time where North America became modernized. Whether it was the music, the culture or the growth in technology, this time era is known to most people as the point where America advanced itself to become a world renowned country. An advancement that will be focused on is the Ford Model T. During this time owning a car was a symbol of wealth. Henry Ford, the creator of the Model T, made a system that revolutionized the automobile industry as we know it today. Henry Ford made it possible for people with an average income to own a motor vehicle by creating the assembly line and the theory of mass production. “The horse, which had been the chief means of land transportation for 3,500 years, had given way to the automobile, and the countrys largest industry had been born.” (Gordon)
Families owned a lot more cars than they ever had, and the number of cars in the U.S. grew from 885 to 1,500 in 1932, thanks to a combination of increased technology used by the automobile and the changing lifestyles of its owners. „ (Hannibal)
The automobile brought to market a high quality of life and culture for its inhabitants, which fueled the automobile industry. A major focus on comfort, safety and efficiency in the early 20th century combined with a strong emphasis on self defense, served to improve the lives of Americans as well. The automobile drove down the cost of all goods and made life much more complicated. Achieving this goal by the late 1920s, Ford had its own production lines run by their factory owners. In other words, the manufacturing process of the 1920s was completely automated, without any labor involved. This meant that a car could be ordered and shipped the world over with a day of labor. This became a major milestone that led to a worldwide industry that could be defined as a mass of vehicles that can handle hundreds, perhaps thousands of vehicles. And when one considers that the people who built the automobile were also the people that made it into these machines, the impact of this shift resulted in a very significant decline in automobile sales. While there are many factors that lead to a decline in automotive sales, there is nothing that drives a decline in automobile sales. Some factors in this decline include increasing competition from cars that are cheaper, less durable, or less fuel efficient; decreasing demand for better equipment and safety equipment; increasing shipping distances for better delivery capabilities; increasing the use of fuel-efficient trucks and small vehicles; and, of course, an increase in the number of vehicles built in the US by the 1950s. The key to this decline occurred in the development of the automobile industry. There is no doubt that there were many factors to be taken into consideration this shift, but to be sure, we will get into each of these below. In most cases the factors that led to higher rates of automobile sales (see above for the key factors) will have an impact on the number of cars sold, as well as the amount of equipment being used. The most important factor influencing the number of automobiles sold in a given year will be the type of machinery or equipment being used within that year. If the amount of equipment required for a car is under 50 pounds (30 kg), then that car will sell for at least $100 more than the previous season’s car. If the weight exceeds 25 pounds (35 kg), then the average car will cost $100 more. This will mean the overall amount of output on a car will decrease by 25% over a year as the engine gets a new job, increasing the amount that can be consumed. In other words, from a cost standpoint, a given vehicle will have a loss of more power, more air conditioning, etc. The type of equipment being used per car is a question that is often answered at the dealer or on online forums: “Does that car work under 90? No, but did it work at 94? No, but did it work the last year?” However, because the vehicles are still sold through dealerships that are more advanced than Ford dealerships, many other factors that led to the rise in the number of vehicles sold in a given year will

The First production of the Model T came out on October 1, 1908 at the Piquette Avenue Plant in Detroit. (www.hfmgv.org) At the time the Model T was going for a price around $850 and by the Twenties a newer model could be bought for at a price of $275.(Gordon) Although having a Model T, was a sign of wealth, it was awfully cheaper than other cars being manufactured by the other manufactures. The Model T was different from all other cars being made at the time because Ford found a way to make his car affordable. The Low Price of the Model T sent a boom around the nation. “Over the next 19 years, Ford would build 15,000,000 automobiles with the Model “T” engine, the longest run of any single model apart from the Volkswagen Beetle.” (www.hfmgv.org) “In 1900 America produced 4,100 automobiles; in 1908, the year of the Model Ts advent, the number had risen to 63,500; in 1909 it had nearly doubled, to 123,900. In 1916 it stood at 1,525,500.” (Gordon)
The Model T changed the ways of America in an immense way. Fords Model T revolutionized manufacturing. To help build his Model T more efficiently and with less money he used the assembly line. “By 1914, Ford and his engineers had installed a belt-driven movable production line that took the work to the worker, and then carried that mans work to another worker, and so, until a shining Model T rolled off the line. It was continuous flow production. No one had ever done this before.” (
With the help of the Model T, the assembly line was created, but greatly the method of mass production was created because of this too. With the help of the assembly line mass production became to be a way of producing, not only in the United States but all around the world. Products would now be made in bulk and at an efficient rate because of the introduction of the Model T. Another method that was created from all of this was the method of interchangeable parts. Interchangeable parts helped increase the productivity and made tings more efficient. Henry ford used interchangeable parts
