Prophase
Prophase is the 1st phase of Mitosis, the process that separates the duplicated genetic material carried in the nucleus of a parent cell into two identical daughter cells. During prophase, chromatin condenses. The chromatin coils and becomes increasingly compact, resulting in the formation of visible chromosomes. These chromosomes are then attached to the mitotic spindle fibers that are formed during this phase. These spindle fibers are specialized microtubules and are responsible for separating the two sister chromatids into two cells.
