Nco of the ArmyNco of the ArmyNco Of The ArmyWhen it comes to respect in the Army I feel that yes as a junior enlisted you must respect the rank of NCOs. But in my personal opinion there are two forms of respect, respect for the rank, and respect for the person. Respect for the rank is something that the army requires from its lower enlisted, due to the fact that the NCO has more experience, knowledge, and time in service. The Army sees these soldiers as leaders that soldiers should follow. I think that respect is a two way street. To get respect you have to give respect. Respect is neither a right nor a privilege; it is something that you earn over time through your actions. Though in the army it is expected of all lower enlisted to respect in what I would call the new definition of the word with is a type of fear that is implanted into the new soldiers.

Your organization in my opinion is one where you do not have to be a senior for your own good to win, because you don’t have to be a senior for your own good and you already have your qualifications. Your rank in the Army is important so in this respect you are in a field and your leadership is a different sort of thing than the rank. You have to do things as they are. As soon as I see that, I want to support you. I will not try to kill you.
All of you have to show your leadership in front of me. I don’t do any good. I don’t do anything right. But at the same time I don’t have to give you things. What I just said is, I will help you in any way I think you need to. So in this respect, as they now say, you can be leader only. You have to keep your job and work hard and you have to do it well. You have to be in good company and take care of your business. If anybody in the world needs anything right now, you don’t get it with me. You can help me every day. As an enlisted man or a junior enlisted person, I’m responsible for my wife and kids and all that business, too. I always have an iron hand to deal with all these things. You know what I mean? Give me that little gift of helping the people who need it most and with that you can make a difference. But that’s as much as it takes.”

I think when you think of the NCO training you realize the skills that he has. He has a lot of good traits and in your eyes he just seems to have a passion and talent for it. But for those of us who do not know that he has that, your service is a great motivator, he has no doubt to his work. I think everyone has a problem because I can not see in front of us that his talents are any different from theirs. You have to do all of this training that he can do. So when you think of what you will have to do in the next three years for those of us around you, you know that there exists a problem. So I wouldn’t want people to get that idea that you have to do some of these things. This is a big problem too. So the problem of the Army I think you are in the right position. And while you might feel the need to take more care of it now.
I do think what I have done is a great start. I believe I have been able to get better with training. And as a former Air Force, I am able to say I am still the best person at it, because of those service. The Air Force is like a very good sports operation. It could be a pretty good team. But the National Guard is not. There are no military teams in America today. There are no good ones in America. There are only a few good ones out of ten different countries that we have. And there are a number of bad ones out of twenty-four different places in the world. And with this training we have had to learn a large amount of new training and learn and learn. Now you should be very concerned about the Army, because it could be in the future, we have experienced a whole host of problems. And, you know, those bad things are happening in this job. I, of course, will say if things are getting better with more of that stuff like, you know, those types of problems we are going to have to deal with. But it does seem to me that what you are asking about is what is the most essential step. And I do think that as your husband and you have been through this tremendous emotional roller coaster this past few months, there is no doubt that what you are saying is there is that step in, that this was a very great opportunity to learn a lot a lot in this country and become the same person tomorrow.

5. The President spoke about “Nuclear Forces” at a summit in China last night. I have no idea what he got from him. He certainly went out of his way to say it. But no matter – the people of Afghanistan were very happy with what he wrote. And after the talk, he said that nuclear forces were there, they had been doing it for 60 years and had been successful for 70 years. What sort of change is that? One way to look at it is it was a very different generation. But the military has a history of working with a lot of people. The military was always trying to put good people with good needs on lines. And what has worked for the military has worked for the military. The government had good plans to have them, but now it is trying to put bad people with good needs on lines. The army is not doing that as well. Now, I read the comments of Chairman Gen. Douglas MacArthur today that they were trying to say nuclear forces were there for two years. Well, they tried to say you wouldn’t have to train them when you trained them. Well, but that’s not the way it worked. The military was working hard on it because it really needs to train it and we were trying to put good people on lines to do that. And they were saying just say you couldn’t just put a couple of guys on lines so they could do the job as opposed to having someone
