Teenagers began to express their words on the internet in a slightly different way. Many
abbreviations were created and many foul languages were used. Lots of abbreviations were a
language totally different to what I usually speak. When I became a teenager, I was finally exposed
to these abbreviations and began using them.
When I was young, reading internet slangs were like deciphering an ancient inscription. It took me
quite a while to fully understand what others said.
On social networking services such a facebook,
I always reply to comments or to text messages as fast as I could. I used the abbreviations to speed
up my response. Then, it became a habit.
There were many concerns regarding internet languages. People thought that the true value of
languages were being depreciated. In other words, people were concerned that teenagers were not
speaking the language in a proper way. It is understandable. The Korean language was introduced
in order to create a new language that could replace the complicated Chinese characters with an
easier language. But since new words and abbreviations were formed, it was an alien language to
adults, but it was the “Korean” language for teenagers.
A consequence arising from this need to convey messages in a short, effective manner has also
produced a number of slang terms which originate from misspellings of other words. The most
