Freedom of Religion No Longer Exists
It is stated that freedom of religion exists in this country, in fact, it is thought that this country was founded on the concept of freedom. However, any child who attends public school in the United States knows that this isnt true. What freedom of religion has come to mean is that you are free to be a religion that is okay with most people in the country, such as a Christianity and to a lesser extent Judaism. If you happen to belong to one of these two religions then you can certainly have the freedom to worship as you please in your home and in your church or temple. You can celebrate the holidays of your choosing in the manner that they are traditionally celebrated and people will actually find you to be responsible and of high morals if you do so. However, if you belong to one of the mytriad of other religions that exist in the world, you are not really free to worship as you please. This is especially true if you are Muslim at this time. If you are Muslim in the United States you might as well wear a sticker on your forehead that says “fanatical terrorist. You are not free to practice your religion without having to justify yourself at every turn, worry about being harrassed and humiliated, and even be put in danger. Similarly, if you choose to practice no religion at all, you are considered a lowly person of weak morals who is not enlightened and will certainly end up in hell. If there were really freedom of religion in this country then there wouldnt be so many references to the Judeo-Christian theology that is all around us. This is present all over television shows, in school curricula, and in the workplace. The affirmation that there is one God and that this God is the same God that both Christians and Jews believe in is so rampant that any variation from this puts a persons integrity into question. Therefore, I think that freedom of religion no longer exists, if it ever did, in the United States of America.
