Freshie 101: A Freshmans Guide to Adaptation
The University of the Philippines- Diliman, the countrys leading educational institution, is a diverse community of students. Koreans, Geeks, Bullies, Jologs, CoÑos; name them all, UP has them. And each of which has different stories.
As the university is divided to different classifications of students, it is quite obvious that the classes differ with one another. However, they are still united by one culture – the unique UP culture. Having street foods as snacks, or sometimes even as lunch, wearing a crappy yet comfortable shirt inside the campus, and riding a jeepney to get from one building to another; these are all indispensable with a certified UP student.
Each year, the iskolars ng bayan increase as the freshmen add up to their population. Moreover, the majority of these freshmen came from the different provinces. They enter the UP campus ignorantly; hence, they can be distinguished in several ways. In fact, many freshmen try to conceal their being one in fear of being bullied or power- tripped. But to a freshmans nightmare, the upper classmen are experts in this field.
These freshmen tend to call buildings in the university with the halls names themselves. They call the College of Social Sciences of Philosophy as Palma Hall, which the upper classmen ordinarily refer to as AS; they call the gym as Ylanan Hall; the Engineering building as Melchor Hall. Another, these freshmen can be distinguished through their IDs. Aside from the fact that a freshmans ID looks way much newer than of the upper classmens, a freshman may be
identified because a freshie always wears it. This is because they are still used to being in high school, where youll be reprimanded if caught not wearing one. Also, in terms of clothing, most students who wear fashionable and stylish wardrobes (though may feel uncomfortable at times), are freshmen.
Also, these freshmen tend to join different programs and organizations, which they believe can help them in adjusting. Because they have no buddies to spend their free time with; because they want to meet people who have the same interests as them; because they want to have affiliations; because their thinking unite with the organizations goals and purposes; because they want to have friends who can teach them the ABCs in UP; they join these
