Functional Areas of BusinessMary CarterMGT/521May 4, 2015Diane Hunt-WagnerFunctional Areas of BusinessBusiness management is an essential functional part of a business that acts as the basis of a business development process. Most successful businesses attribute their success to good leadership and innovation on the top management of the company. In the infancy of a business it is the leaders who come up with growth ideas and plans to achieve greatness in an already competitive market. This paper discusses the role of a manager within the functional parts of a business. The paper will look at the interpersonal, informational and decision roles on planning, organizing, leading and controlling a business to ultimate success. The managers in the company play a role of planning or strategic planning for the business activities. The process involves putting in place the business strategies, setting targets and documenting. Documentation should be clear and concise when it comes to explaining what expectations are and the target. Planning is a sensitive part of a business operation, as the outcome of the business is usually based on how good or how poor the plan was. Managers are usually aware of all the strengths weaknesses and past successes of various plans that had been put in place (Emerald Insight, 2015). As such they define the plan from a point of experience which increases the chances of having a good plan at hand. The managers also must communicate the plan and the process to enacting it in a very clear manner to the rest of the company to avoid cases of misunderstanding or misinterpretation.Organizing a business to achieve its potential has always been the failure of many businesses especially startups. Managers play the role of structuring and organizing a business at all levels ranging from sales to marketing in order to have a working system that is productive and able to achieve maximum results for the given business. The role of organizing the business is left to the managers because of their vast experience in the operations. The managers also have a better understanding of the plan in set for the company and can easily organize the day to day operations of the business. In the case of John Dickens, the roles of the senior staff were reorganized by the senior management in order to enhance their performance (Wang integrates business functions, 1999).
