Gay Marriages:
Approving Equal Rights
Doesn’t everyone wish they could wake up and the world would be free of Prejudice? Well supporting the right of every American to marry including gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender is a step closer. My belief is that marriage and other civil rights our essentials to making all families safer and more secure. Who are gays anyway? They are your friends, your family, your co-workers, and spouse. Gays are ordinary humans hoping to live an equal lifestyle as a heterosexual. When gay’s talk of starting a family and having a child most look to one another in disbelief and ask where do you see the family values. So why we ask is gay marriage the talk of all the news media lately, because there is no support for the issue.
The case for allowing gays to marry begins with equality, pure and simple. Ask just about anyone. Most people will tell you they’re in favor of equal rights for homosexuals, but only in housing, jobs, public accommodations, and equal assess to government benefits (Wildman, 2005). Then you get to gay marriages and all this talk of equality stops. At one time it was illegal for African adults to marry Caucasian adults, today it is said to be traditional, so why so much prejudice over the matter of gay marriage. For one reason marriage states that it’s the union between a man and a woman. This appears to be the most common argument when it comes to the disapproval of gay marriages. Who says what marriage is and by whom is it defined by, those already married couples or only those who are given the right to marry (Adams, 2005). For those who support the gay community, would express this to be prejudice than any kind of a real argument. More people need to take a stand make there voices heard, so we can stop the unfairness and suffering that we propose to gays.
Same- sex couples can’t procreate so why should they be given the right to marry that’s what a marriage was meant for. Did anyone think of this, who society allows to get married and bring children into the world? If murderers, convicted felons of all sort and child molesters can freely marry and procreate then children being brought into this world by two of the same sex partners shouldn’t be something to fuss about (Hetrick & Martin, 1987). There are many children in this world without families to care for them and it’s sad. What is wrong with same-sex couples who love each other and can provide a good life, not be allowed to have a family? Well, not in today’s society everyone is judged, but stop and think if your feet where in the shoes of homosexual would you want the same civil rights as a man and a woman with children.
Sit back and try to remember when the world was free of ignorance and prejudice. Times up, we have always lived in this type of society we lived it when black civil rights where an issue and now the subject of gay marriage is upon us. When do we draw the line, is there a fair answer to the ignorance humans play on one another or is just a fear we all carry. Years from now, people will scratch there heads, consult books and visit museums, the way you might visit a black civil-rights museum today (Peterson, 2005). We will gaze upon the evidence and the struggle and try to figure out why society once again has discriminated. All the attention is brought to gay marriages and how more than half of all people in the United States oppose gay marriage, but is there anything said about the priest in our churches who molest children, think about what society should be fixing (Peterson, 2005). What will become of the world when gay marriages are recognized, time will only tell?
There are many different reasons people oppose gay marriage. Let’s examine the real reasons either they’re uncomfortable or fear gay marriage. Deep down inside most people just hate the whole idea and not willing to understanding that gays are just as human as me and you. Another major issue thrown around the media is that it offends everything religion stands for. Marriage is supposed to be a
