A common issue in todays society is acceptance. Individuals that do not express gender roles of their specific gender are bullied ridiculed and are socially not accepted. Civilians in todays society have constructed stereotypes and perspectives those individuals most up hold, in order to be considered socially acceptable. Society has put a mindset onto many people, that if someone does not part take in “normal” gender activities, this usually creates the illusion that the individual is the opposite sex, or gay. In all actuality the gender roles that a person displays, does not correlate with someones biological sex. Also a persons sexual orientation is not determined by gender roles either. A person can engage in as much gender atypical behaviors as they would like, and still consider themselves as their biologic al sex. But the question is, why

Do we have to dress and behave a certain way, in order to be accepted? Change needs to occur so that individuals do not feel that they have to express societys stereotypes and gender roles, in order for them to be accepted into society.

The biggest controversial debate is between sex and gender. Sex determines the biological status that an individual would uphold, determining on their sex chromosomes, whereas gender identity is defined as a personal conception of oneself as male or female.1 Society has assigned certain gender roles, for individuals to abide to in order to be accepted. For instance, when you think of purses, shopping, and fashion what gender comes to mind? To me, and most of todays society, a female would come to mind. A female is known to love fashion, go shopping, spending hours in front of the mirror getting ready. Compared to men where they enjoy hunting, NASCAR, and football. Men love working out, and gaining muscle definition. Men generally could care less about what they look like, unlike women. If women did not care about what she looked like and dressed like a male, society would label them as a lesbian or a tomboy, just because they did not match up to societys perception, on how a female should look like.
