Emphasis on gender equality is something that has long been and currently is a concern in many countries. In the South Pacific, emphasis has been put into gender equality in the field of education, economic, political and social factors. It is important to acknowledge that emphasis on gender equality has had positive impacts on society. This essay will discuss the reasons for emphasis on gender equality and its effects on society.To begin with, there are many reasons for emphasis on gender equality. One of the reasons is education. In some countries around the world women are still deprived of their right to education which makes it difficult in finding employment thus may lead to poverty. For example, despite progress in recent years, girls continue to suffer severe disadvantage and exclusion in education systems throughout their lives. United Nation statistics showed an estimated 31 million girls of primary school age and 32 million girls of lower secondary school age were out of school in 2012 (UNGEIs website., 2015). Individuals should not be denied education.
