I believe that Mr. Adler has some valid points. One in particular is the opinion of
the ancients. Education is the process of developing or perfecting human being. I also
believe that the ultimate goals of education are human happiness and the welfare of
society. On the other hand, when it comes to vocational education, some students are more
adaptable to on the job training then on the job training. Some people that I have encounter are
insecure about not having a certain level of education. They believe society puts them in a
category or class of people that are dependent on the government for welfare assistance. No
general education can cause a person to have lack of job opportunities, low self-esteem, and
crime.
They have grown up in families that did not stress the importance of getting an
education and are more likely to be living out on the streets, doing drugs, or ending up in
prison. In many cases their parents were raised in similar conditions when
they were younger and nothing has changed. Whether it was because they were forced to
quit school and work or they didnt have a role model. I believe that children learn by
example. So therefore, if they have never seen a family member finish high school
and go to college, they will never grasp the idea of being a successful individual. They
honestly believe that they are supposed to so the same things that their parents are doing.
Some people who lack general educational skills have greater difficulty finding well-
paying job that is not a trade or vocational skill. Basic English and math skills are
necessary to find or perform a job in this country. Most people who are white collar workers are
working in an areas where they have taken a trade such as welding or vocational skill such as culinary. You would rarely find a person with a college degree working at a fast food restaurant
making minimum wage.
Some people have low self-esteem because they lack education. They tend to
evaluate what they have achieved in life, especially with regards to education. Knowledge
is power might be a cliché to some but I believe
