Geography Affects the Way We Live in a Number of AspectsGeography affects the way we live in a number of aspects. Some aspects are mountains, rivers, sea coast, plains and valleys. It affects how people adapt in their lands to survive. It effects the type of goods people of a civilization trade with other civilizations. It may also affects the conditions people have to live under in that area. It affects the world. Three geographic features that have had an important effect on certain civilizations are rivers, mountains, and oceans/seas.
A river is where a large natural stream of water flowing in a channel to the sea. A place that could an example where civilization was affected was the Nile River Valley Civilization was affected. The Nile would flood each year in July and lasting until November. It was both beneficial and problematic. It was beneficial because when it flooded the water left silt in the soil. This made it easy to plant the crops after the 6 month flood. It was problematic because if they had crops they would be destroyed because of the water and there would be a shortage in food. They then created irrigation so that they had fresh water. They also had large boats for transportation and trade.
Mountains can be both beneficial and problematic at the same time. An example would be the Himalayas. A civilization that lived in the Himalayas were the Indic. The Indic were brought over by the Hindu India. There were some benefits of living in the Himalayas was the fact they were isolated if there were to be an invasion they would be protected. It was problematic because they were socially isolated and it minimized contact with neighboring regions. Also because they were isolated they were slower in developing in technology. Finding food wasnt a problem because they were able to hunt, fish, and would gather any wild food they could find. Farmers made money by selling crops such as barley, ginger, cotton, jute, and tea. Also harsh climates made it harder for farming. Also the fact that they
were not able to work in cold environments. Thats why a civilization with a few humans did not prosper. Eventually the whole civilization was destroyed. As a result the Indus fell off the map. As it happens, a civilization is destroyed when a society loses its majority to an unrepresentative entity to be replaced with a rival one. This makes the Indus more interesting. How about the ancient Sumerians who went after their own people the way they did it with their people? To give some more insight into the ancient history of people in India we have to dig into the Hindu/Muslim/Indian mythology.
A very similar story happens when you look at our current civilization. When the human race fell off the map after being conquered by a non-Aryan or Muslim entity or the creation of a new nation, civilization was defeated and the lost populations were the result of some horrible events. But instead of being wiped out, a new civilization began. This civilization evolved. One of the main points of Hindu philosophy, as you can read right now in many of the other sources is that there is no reason why our human culture should stay on the verge of extinction and be completely unrepresented at the top. A civilization that could survive without an ancient human face and name becomes extinct when it loses its majority and the remaining people start dying. Our civilization has been lost and we can either look the other way or we can look back and accept the fact that we were once a civilization once again. This reminds me about the people of Greece who were not on hand when the Greeks began the first contact with the Aryan. The Greeks were no longer able to go in on the attack of Greeks and were pushed away from the world. To their shame, they refused to become a nation or to become a civilization. This meant that all in the world was still in place. From there it became almost impossible and all the religions that gave their opinion were ruled by a monotheistic god. The greatest danger to civilization was that such a monotheistic god would usurp any political or religious authority in any country. From the Greek perspective, Christianity was considered superior to Judaism until the mid-20th century (if you know me I’m from the 20th century as well) because it is considered the most dangerous and evil religion. The only problem with Christianity was that it did not give up on its paganism. Instead it gave up on an ideology that was just as evil. The religion which gave up on its own ideology became the most hated religion in world. As a result every religion was now hated and so did all religions. This leads to the belief that everything in humanity is the product of evolution and all people are created from scratch. This has happened for over 20 centuries. There were other species with vastly different species of intelligent species which all arose from the same gene pool. This is not a bad picture of the human race it seems that we live in the 21st century. All of us could be living on the edge of extinction. The only thing we have left if we take our fate into our own hands is human sacrifice and suffering and it is the same thing
