Gap Analysis: Global Communications
Global Communications is a company with a goal of being a company that provides multiple services to its customers and future customers. This will yield them high profit and help them beat out the competition. This analysis will indicate what their dilemmas are and how they will go about the task to making GC successful.
Stakeholder Perspectives/Ethical Dilemmas
The stakeholders are speculative about the rebound of the company. In comparing the stock from three years ago to today, the stock depreciated more than fifty percent. They believe this because telecommunications companies are risky due to the tremendous pressure of the economy.
Sy (2004), key stakeholders at one of his meetings stated “I know we have to work with the Union, but we also have an obligation to our people”. His main objection is he does not want to lay employees off to make a profit.
Situation Analysis
Worldwide Telecommunications, Inc. is a multimillion-dollar company that has networks all over the globe. Contingency in todays market of global telecommunications is unanimous.
In this scenario, the GC Company has several problems. Their biggest problem GC has to deals with is the large amount of competition.
GC decided to come up with new approaches to help their company become one of the largest global telecommunication companies. Local, long-distance and international markets are all competing for the same business. Some employees will be laid off of their jobs and GC will have to deal with the Union.
In order for GCs transition to go smoothly a meeting was called to brainstorm on how to approach their transition and how to be more profitable. The services they want to introduce will primarily work with small businesses. They want to provide services in both long-distance and local markets by becoming partners with satellite, telephone and cable companies.
According to the company (2006), there will also be a video services as well as a satellite version of broadband. With the wireless provider it will allow the small business owner to have access to the internet anytime using wireless telephone or PC cards. With all of this technology the company will be able to access their information that was hosted remotely.
According to Victor Ferkiss (2000), Economist believes that this new stage of globalization of all nations is increasingly being nurtured by the computer and above all by the Internet. Global political and economic mutual action is a new topic. Could globalization be desirable? Perhaps, as most critics argue that it is a re-run of earlier control by one power, with the US being the one overwhelming power and the internet being the instrument of choice. For many nations there is high cost to join world economy and as for local economies, they are torn by the changes of international markets. Globalization is sealing the gap between rich and poor nations and increasing American domination of the worlds economic and cultural markets.
Issue and Opportunity Identification
With the companies issues GC held a meeting to brainstorm in order to get ideas of how they are going to deal with these issues. One idea was to stay in communication with the Union. With the lay off GC knew they could have additional problems, for instance law suits.
Another was to hire one thousand qualified sales people, and salary cuts or possible retention bonuses to off set salary cuts.
End-State Vision
Global Communications can provide a good environment for its employees by outsourcing the employees that are about to be laid off by using them in other areas of the company. These employees may already have the knowledge of the structure of the company which
