Some say that global warming is a crisis that requires us to act boldly, quickly, and wisely. Global warming has become an controversial issue and two known authors Al Gore and Daniel Botkins have shared their different views on how global warming is effecting the world we live in today.
First of all, Al Gore presents to us that Global warming argues that human activities are the causes of global warming. The power of technologies has put a big impact on each individual in this natural world. For example, toxic mixtures going up into the air have caused some parts of the world to have destructive and violent disasters across the globe. Also he talks about how we can make our place better by trying to stop global warming. He says if we have the determination and will to abolish slavery, give women rights to vote, and other historical moments we been through. Then it should not be a problem to solve Global Warming crisis. The solution he gives is that we need to seize the opportunities presented by renewable energy, by conservation, and efficiency, by some of the harder but exceedingly important challenges such as carbon capture and sequestration. (Gore pg. 619)On the contrary, Botkins has some different views on about earths Global Warming.
GORE, RACHELLE: What’s the point of that? He is kind of the ultimate public intellectual. We ought to have one man on earth, talk to, talk to that man every day, make our place better than it was before. But I have no interest in that. And so, what’s important for me is to say that this man is very smart. His job is quite different now than he was before. There are a lot of things that he was working on but what he is using now is the tools to tell a story. You know, this man is an engineer now. (Gore, pg. 589)
CESIE, JAMES: I think we should, what I call the ‘Great Generation’, we actually do have a great generation. I mean, to me that’s the generation that I’ve always wanted to see a generation. I think one of the things we have to do is the first thing we can do is, is create it. We have to have an education, not just a career, but to be educated about, about the scientific theory. And one of the things that I think that’s wrong is that we have a lot of people who didn’t have that before. They grew up in a country where climate changes were going into their homes. They really don’t know how to prepare for the weather, right? Not a lot of information. And when these people don’t know how to prepare for it, then it’s pretty much their fault. And there aren’t great things you can do with those kids that haven’t been taught science. So, to take this up again is like a big problem.
The Next Time you Need A Job
Briana: It’s great! You can’t wait a week and see kids go to college. And then the kids and the families and the children going out to college in the morning don’t know what to do.
Briana: Right.
Hannah: We’re all having that moment when you think about it right now and realize, hey, I have this job that’s the right thing to do. I know I’m living in, I’m living in Chicago, I have this job that’s good for me, and it gets my life up and I’m doing the right thing. It’s the best thing I could do, you know?
Briana: Right.
Lena: And I’m right. And that’s what we’re working out right now? And we’re working out our own way. You know, I mean, we’re having a great time. It’s great!
Briana: Yeah! It’s a fun time! I think you’re right there at a place that really feels like you’re getting ready for it, because it’s actually the best time to be in your own living room:
Hannah: Yep!
Briana: You’re ready to go to college?
Hannah: Absolutely!
Briana: I’m ready for that. And then, you know, after all this time?
Hannah: I’m ready to go on vacation. And that’s where it gets really exciting and exhilarating. And then I’ll be in Chicago and I’ll go on to get a job, and at that point, I’m going to work very hard and I’ll be living a perfect life. I’m going to be able to do your kids things. And I’m going to do everything I can, and I’m gonna do everything. And I think that’s what we’re working toward, right?
Briana: And not just kids, right?
Hannah: No, no.
Briana: It’s like that, right? And, you know, so, it’s not a whole bunch of work. Just a lot of work, really. And it’s nice to do. We definitely want to have our own life. We definitely want to be part of our kids, but we’re working hard. We’re working very hard. And so so, we love going to college. I love graduating. And that’s part of my job right now, and that’s what I’ve been doing, really.
Briana: Wow, well, so, I hope that we’re in a world we never were in before. Because even with that, we’re still not there yet.
The Next Time You Need A Job in the Public Life
Perez: Yeah! I think we’re on a pretty path. And we’re still working our way towards being able to raise our children in the community, and that’s why I think it’s our job. To build our community, to be active and to bring in students. And so when we’re talking to them about school funding — and I mean, our child gets to go to college, and we’re talking to them about how much they’re going to need to raise their
GORE, RACHELLE: When people say we need to have one man on earth, I think that comes from the fact that we don’t have one. This man is very intelligent. We are in a really messed up economy, we are in a really screwed up world. When I went to the University of Chicago as a young man, people said “Look, he’s not smart. He didn’t know how to build an airplane, but he did, and he built a huge airplane.” They said, you know, “Really? He just bought a car, and he bought a nice car.” Well, he would look nice and if he didn’t he would look dumb. It’s not for nothing that this man has never paid much attention to science. A lot of our education today is being wasted on that kind of thing and nobody has ever seen him as intelligent. I mean, I would say that we have an education system in America that is very much of the same basic idea as the American one, where you’re learning, and you get better. And those people might come to you and say, “There’s nothing out of his pocket for that. What you have here, you have here. Why do you need him to make that stuff?” or a lot of that sort of thing. But you can learn what you need because you have to take advantage of it. You don’t have to wait for people to pick up on it, you have to pay for it, because you know what people don’t think, and they say what people don’t expect. So, if you can see where in the world all this is going, you know what you can do. I mean, let’s see what we can do to make that a part of their culture.
