The first covenant that I will discuss is the covenant that God made with Noah. The covenant that God made with Noah was “the first explicit act of covenant in the Hebrew Bible”. (www.hope.edu) This covenant is often called Gods covenant with creation. The sign of this covenant is the rainbow. This is because a rainbow arches over all of creation. In this covenant God said, “As for me, I am establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you, and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the domestic animals, and every animal of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark. I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth”. (Harper Collins) God also told Noah, ” Be fruitful and increase and fill the earth”. (www.hope.edu) This covenant is made with all of creation. This is shown when God said, ” I will establish my covenant with you and with your seed after you”. (www.prca.org) This is what makes this covenant so unique. It was as if God was making this covenant with me and you and we werent even here yet. This covenant is also spoke of in Jeremiah, Chapter 33. In this scripture God says, “Thus saith the Lord, if ye can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season, then may also, my covenant by broken with David my servent, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne”. (www.prca.org) This covenant gives us a reminder of how God created everything. It also shows us how faithful God is in the promises he makes to us. God actually gave us as mankind another chance at life with the flood. “If it were not for one righteous man Noah, God would have destroyed everything”. (vt.essortment.com) In this covenant God is the one giving, not Noah, except for leaving his homeland. This is what you would call a unilateral covenant. Several things changed after the flood. It is thought that this flood is what caused the drift of the continents. The biggest change was that the Garden of Eden was lost. (www.berith.org) Something else that is noted is that we do not know Noahs wifes name or his sons wives names. (www.berith.org) Noah was the mediator of this covenant.
