Character is how you are viewed by other people and how you act. Character often shows itself through decisions you make in certain situations, how you interact with other people, and last by the people you hangout with and your character makes a difference because it decides so many factors in your life, it decides who trusts you. Development of character is built through your decision and sometimes even through your physical descriptions, but even when character is established, character can be tested and change. Character, its development, its difference, and its tests can be seem in Tuesday with Morrie and in To Kill A Mockingbird.
In the book, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, character is tested in so many ways, and it is tested for so many of the characters. One of the characters who was tested throughout the whole book was Atticus Finch. Atticus is considered a good character, he possess all of the positive characteristics, he is humble, he is a very open minded character, and the most important of all he is willing to help other even when it is against the “social norms.” In the book, he is built as a character through the way he chooses to raise his children and also when he chooses to defend Tom Robinson in the trial. His character is tested when he is asked to defend a black, even though nobody expects him to won Atticus tries his best because he knows it is not the right thing to convict a man just because he is black. But Atticus wasnt the only only good character that was tested, Jem was too. His character was tested because he needed to grow up faster than he was actually aging. He needed to understand things that were above his level and he needed to teach his younger sister to be a good character too.
Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom, is a great example of how character shows itself but also how it makes a difference. Whether you have good character or bad character it makes a difference throughout the book. Morrie is another character that we learned about that has good character. Morrie’s good character is the reason why Mitch wrote the book, so it makes a difference. What makes Morrie such a good character is that he never gave up, he accepted what was happening to him, he was open minded to change, but most of all Morrie is as selfless as a person gets. Character makes a difference because when Morrie was diagnosed with ALS he didnt just say well thats it my life is over, he said you know what now its time to live. Morrie decided that he would give others advice that he wished he wouldve had. Him and Mitch get together and each Tuesday is a different topic that Morrie thinks MItch need to know about and needs advice on, the most important things in life. The one quote that I think really builds and shows you Morries true character is, focus on the people who love you and the people that your love do not worry about the material things, because the materials
