If you let other people influence and pressure you, you will end up somewhere and someone you dont want to be. A good example of this is the girls from the witch trials in Salem from the Crucible. They were influenced greatly by Abigail to accuse people and keep their “act” going. Even Marry Warren, the one girl who tried to do the right thing and come clean fell to Abigails intoxicating influence. I can easily relate a situation of my own where I was influenced into doing something I knew was wrong.
My friends and I were at a party where there had been people drinking. Neither I nor my friends drank, but numerous people were. It was about 11:15 and we needed to get home since none of us were driving quite yet. We would have called our parents, but we were not where we had told them we would be that night. This put all of us in a very tough situation. One of our friends who wasnt completely sober asked us if we needed a ride, we quickly said yes panicked that if we didnt we would have no way of getting home. As we were walking to his car I suggested that we just call one of parents to come pick us up but my friends said no way and persuaded me to get in the car.
The consequences of my poor decision to get in the car were unimaginable. As we were driving home our friend was speeding and it just so happened that a cop saw and pulled us over. The policeman made everyone get out of the car; I was in shock and could barely even comprehend what was happening. Our friend had to breathe into the breathalyzer and was arrested for driving under the influence. The cop took down all of our numbers and called our parents. I was terrified of what my parents would say, I knew they would be extremely disappointed and that killed me. When they picked me up they were furious and said that if I would have just called them in the first place none of this would have happened.
The cops are not happy with the decision, but the lawyer for the family says they can appeal the verdict. “You are still at risk, it’s been very difficult to deal with the situation but our family in Florida is grateful for the support from my office and I have been contacted here by the lawyer on the phone and the police officers. The family are also pleased for you to be able to attend an extended hearing in a future court date. There are a lot of legal fees, lawyers also have to put up with an awful lot of lawyers trying to help my case because the legal fees come from a few people. And now your family is having to ask how these fees are going to go and what that means for them. It’s a horrible thing and I hope the court will find a way to compensate the legal fees. I want a fair trial that protects me, but ultimately I want my family to be free and live in peace after hearing the verdict. The last thing my parents, their children, my grandmother, my grandfather, all the people who know me and people who came into this life from different backgrounds, those people have done a good and innocent job. I can’t stand this judge trying to give this person a fair shake because they can say one thing he’s wrong, one thing he got wrong and it’s all over and yet he is still trying to get an answer.”
KATU’s investigation found that two teenagers were on the freeway at around 1:10 PM when the car rammed through the lane the car’s driver was on, hitting a school bus. The vehicle hit a car on the side of the freeway. In addition to that, the car hit a tree. The teens also told the court they were driving in poor condition: It didn’t run. KATU said it was unclear how many teens were still on the road but it could be many months before the public is free again to see the incident.
The driver who was hit, Michael R. Rodriguez, 30, of Jacksonville, was convicted of vehicular homicide (driving at unsafe speeds between highway speeds), negligent driving and driving at a highway speed of over 100 mph in connection with a serious accident during a traffic stop at the time of the accident.
After the shooting, both men went into a rehabilitation center and then left the park shortly after the accident. They were taken to Children’s Hospital of Tampa with all of their injuries and have not been in jail since.
The parents are not planning an appeal but say they are devastated and are hoping the judge will come around.
“My name isn’t on their list because they don’t want it to tarnish their family,” said KATU’s attorney Rick Pard
