Reflection Interview – Candidate for the Job in the Field of Housekeeping
On Tuesday, October 17, I as a manager conducted an interview of a candidate for the job in the field of housekeeping, for Valor. I tried to make the interview more interactive and fun by conducting the interview in the cafeteria so the candidates would not get intimidated by the surrounding and could open up and show what they truly are and believe. If a potential candidate for the required job gets a nervous or intimidated he/she might not answer the question with full potential and miss out key points (O’Meara & Petzll, 2013). I welcomed the candidate with a greeting and started off with a joke about conducting an interview in a cafeteria. I started the interview with a simple question everybody asks; tell me something about yourself? Following up with why should I hire you? Then I asked the candidate about his/her past experience in similar field and why did you leave. I tried to put the questions really straight and listened very carefully and noting important points down. Then I did a little role play of putting her in a very stressful situation and asked how he/she would deal with it.
The workplace has drastically changed and still is continuously undergoing major changes. Many things in workplace has evolved. Some changed for the better and some for the worst. The good and the bad effects of today’s work field has impacted everyone. Today people are focusing on increasing the production and sales of a company not by force but by building a very close and playful work environment. Establishing good relations with the employees is very important. Finding a potential candidate for the required job is very hard. Now a days the standard of employees have decreased a lot. Younger generation of employees seem to be lazier and less reliable. Therefore the work ethic and pride has decreased. I was trying my best to find out some weakness in the candidate but he/she was very easy going and easy to communicate. The best way to figure out a candidate is to watch the body language and tone he/she is speaking in. the candidate shared the same beliefs and views as me and I started favoring the candidate. Before the interview I planned to ask a lot of counter questions and put the candidate in a little stressful and nervous situation and see how he/she deals with it but sharing the same beliefs and attitude I could not stop favoring the candidate.
