What Would I Do
The aged. In this society now, some young adults prefer to leave their aged parents in the old folks home rather than residing with them. This is very saddening, as our parents are the ones who took care of us, and nature us to become who we are now. And yet, some of us prefer to leave them alone when they grow old.
To make things worse, some even do not visit the aged in the old folks home. This is something very irresponsible.
But I am glad to know that some organizations like some secondary schools, are making an effort to improve the situation. Trips over to the old folks home are organised to keep the old folks company, and have some fun. This is also sending out messages to those who are irresponsible, to make them ashamed of their actions.
They will need care and concern emotionally and physically to prevent the aged from being too lonely. Those who are capable of helping, should give them a hand whenever they are in need. It can basically be helping them to get across the road. To give care emotionally, friends and families should at least chat to them frequently, to let the aged know that they existed and are being loved.
Families should provide financial assistance (money) and basic needs (food, accommodation) to the aged, as they are not able to work and support themselves anymore.
Government bodies are doing their part in introducing the CPF schemes to support the elderly. But that does not approve of their children abandoning them due to them being old.
I do hope that there will be improvements and changes from the government bodies to instill responsibilities and filial piety to young adults.
I will volunteer to take part in any activities from the school to help out in old folks home. I will also make donations to these organizations that I trust, to improve the standard of living life of the aged.
The Ministry of Education should introduce a policy to the all the government and government-aided schools to come up with activities to serve the old folks home every two years.
Activities can be in the form of:
1) A trip to the old folks home, to allow the students to chat with the aged, and present gifts to them.
