In any business there are big decisions to make. You must way in the pros and cons to every aspect. Building a business from ground up requires decision-making that will have an impact on the integrity of its success if not done so with care and diligent consideration. There can be great benefits to outsourcing as well as creating an in-house infrastructure for acquiring images. The decision to do one or the other must not be made easily.
Building a business should require which direction should it go to get the most profit for the company. The first step is finding a photographer or the owner of the images in which you will want to use. This allows for more options as far as the variety of images and artists that are available to the company. Using an in-house photographer could be a better alternative simply because they are available when needed instead of having to wait for outsiders to be ready. Another thing to consider is that third party vendors are most often concerned with quality as it is their business to provide what the client asks for in addition to being obligated by a contractual agreement. On the flip side, in house staff will want the best work possible for the projects since they know what is needed at any given point. (APT Services, 2009)
By outsourcing for photography, the company also has the option to choose those with specialized skills in specific areas of need. (APT Services, 2009). If the company has only one photographer on staff, they will be limited to their expertise. Hiring more than one photographer goes back to the costliness of maintaining unused staff. The most evident benefit to outsourcing is the company’s ability to delegate projects that will save time for the staff and also help meet crucial deadlines. Staff, other than the photographers themselves, might include those who will edit the photos for the purpose they are made for, marketing and sales, IT specialists, and possibly a design team, to name a few. Very few can be outsourced to save money. Saving money while outsourcing can also result in a lower quality product. Competitiveness in businesses is inevitable but one should always remember the phrase “you get what you pay for”.
It is imperative that the company does much research on any business that is going to be in charge of important aspects of a project. Important areas to research include; what do their current clients say about their work, what type of jobs do they do and what are they most mastered at, and are their employees satisfied with the way the company is run. By asking these questions during a search
