Friends are a lot of fun however they are not always loyal, sometimes they stab in the back, and sometimes they can make ur day. The idea is to keep as many great friends as you can while getting rid of the bad ones.
1. A play can tell us a great deal about a particular time and place. Write an essay discussing how Oedipus the King has informed you about Ancient Greek society and its values.
2. Discuss how you are positioned to respond to Oedipus.
3. “Stage drama holds a mirror up to our society.” Discuss the ways in which Oedipus the King might reflect aspects of ourselves and our society today.

1. What are your first impressions of Oedipus as a person and ruler?
2. Thebes is in the throes of plague and agricultural decline? What might this foreshadow for the characters in the play?
3. What did Oedipus hope to gain by sending Creon to pray to the oracle at Delphi?
4. Why does Tiresius initially refrain from divulging the truth to Oedipus and assembled others?
5. What is Oedipus response to Tiresius refusal, and then later, to his accusations?
6. Tiresius replies that he is beholden to no one but Apollo- the “higher authority” that the Greeks thought was God. This allows him to speak the painful truth to Oedipus. What caused Tiresius to change his mind and speak the truth, do you think?
7. Would you characterise Oedipus as evil, or merely human, in his angry reaction to Tiresius?
8. Creon tells Oedipus that he has “lost his sense of balance” and is “sullen in yielding and brutal in rage”. Is Oedipus and measured, or does it seem paranoid, to you?
