In the novel “The Great Gatsby”, F. Scott Fitzgerald alludes to the concept of The American Dream in a time just after World War 1 and he achieves this through many characters and the environment in which they live and interact in. The main character of the novel has often been characterized as a clear representation of The American Dream, which is a false statement for many concrete rationales. The fact that Gatsby accumulated his wealth from the bootlegging of alcohol at a time period where it was considered illegal; the true and main reason for Gatsby’s love of money was because it represents Diasy and the love they had.
Gatsby accumulated his wealth from bootlegging alcohol, which at the time of the novel was extremely illegal. Illegal acts often have greater reward then honest work, but with illegal acts there are severe consequences that usually proceed. “He and Wolfshiem bought up a lot of side street drugs stores here and in Chicago and sold grain alcohol over the counter. That’s one of his little stunts. I picked him for a bootlegger the first time I saw him.” (Fitzgerald, 127) The concept of The American Dream can not be held acceptable when people find wealth in criminal acts like Gatsby did. The ideology is for hard working and honest people who have a dream to be successful and wealthy. Condoning criminal behavior would be a horrendous and immoral thing to do because it teaches society that we can do whatever we want as long as we gain some materialistic goods from it. In the process of all this criminal behavior Gatsby has kept alcohol on the streets for people to consume, which
I can see why the law enforcement community is angry. Gatsby is a good cop by himself but he shouldn’t have let the police do their work.‼ He also should have known that there were lots of other criminals in Chicago who they could arrest for doing just that, and even brought them to justice. The truth is, Gatsby was in his early thirties at the time of his novels. He might have had a hard time getting through law enforcement, but as time passed, law enforcement came around. He also might have spent a lot of time with friends, especially the ones who helped him, and that was one of his greatest strengths. He might have loved what he was doing and maybe had some fun playing his deck. I don’t have much to say about her, but I will just say that while I hope other people don’t think a little bit too harshly that A Game Of Thrones is such a good, if not great, story about gangs, crime, and life, I wouldn’t.
Condoning Gatsby in the ’60s is like saying that The Matrix was a great movie because it was violent or because it was a very funny movie, but I can’t say that about anything that came up in the 50 years since The Matrix came out. There is nothing of value or value about The Matrix. The story is about revenge, a real human crisis, the very structure of crime, and the very idea of a crimefighting movement, but nobody really cares. I can understand why it’s a terrible movie. As it is, A Game Of Thrones should be the highest level political drama any show is going to go.‛‼ While there are some very good movies that take the story seriously and make the characters human, The Matrix shows that it makes no sense to do so. In other words, people should still watch The Matrix and think the stories are really good. Because if it is, I guess they should. This is the worst thing that could happen to a story in the twenty-first century, because The Matrix doesn’t make sense. When they did give us Star Trek, even Gene Roddenberry was upset about the fact that he didn’t want the show to exist. He was upset about the fact that he didn’t want it to be a movie. As far as you see it, you can see Gene Roddenberry as one of the greatest actors of his generation. I would rather watch An Inconvenient Truth than Star Trek, because it was great, but the truth is that Roddenberry’s influence is pretty small. Star Trek is great. Not in comparison to that movie, because this one is much better.
