Nick moves into a modest house in West Egg next door to his mysterious neighbor Jay Gatsby. Nick goes to visit his cousin Daisy, her husband Tom, and friend Jordan Baker.
Tom takes Nick into the city to meet his mistress Myrtle.
Nick is invited to Gatsby’s party as well as Jordan. Many of the people who were at the party begin to spread rumors of who Gatsby is, and Gatsby was at the table with Nick. Gatsby then becomes friends with Nick.
Gatsby tries to offer a job to Nick, which Nick becomes offended. He wants Nick to arrange a lunch with him, Nick and Daisy.
After the lunch Daisy realizes she is in love with Gatsby and decides to leave Tom.
Tom, Daisy, Jordan, Gatsby, and Nick all head off to a hotel where Gatsby and Tom get into a heated argument about Daisy. Daisy does not know who to chose so she runs off.
When driving home, Daisy hits Myrtle with Gatsby’s car. George finds out and Tom tells him that the car he drove was Gatsby’s, not his, so He thinks that Myrtle was having an affair with Gatsby.
Gatsby takes the blame and George Wilson shoots him while he is in the pool, and George shoots himself.
