The Cry of the PeasantsEssay Preview: The Cry of the PeasantsReport this essayThe Cry of the PeasantsIn a land of oppressive tyrants, there was a hope, a hope of the weak peasants rising against their cruel rulers. This hero of the farmers, Robert, has the mystic powers of God himself. While the Great king, Magnus, was greedily sitting on his throne of Gold, the most trusted servant of Magnus, Dargan, foretold him of the impending peasant rebellion of the hero, Robert. But, being a greedy ruler he was, he stubbornly ignored this accurate prediction. The kings lover, Jim, traveled to the land of the peasants to make diplomacy.
Once Jim reached Tervan, an outer city of this rebel kingdom, he was greeted with contempt and aversion. Once the parlay had started, Jim proposed a peace to this war in exchange for heavy taxes, enslavement, and return of all of the great majestys regions. The good citizens of Tervan shouted in outrage at this preposterous proclamation. One elderly man countered by saying, “Why should we accept to this unbalanced, unfair proposition if we are to be enslaved with heavy taxes anyway?!” In response, Jim retorted, “If you surrender now, you can keep your miserable, insignificant lives!!! But if you do not, then the high king Magnus shall impose mighty fury upon your lands.”
[*] Jim’s response sent James through the kingdom a jolt. In the kingdom, he was able to see that he had conquered the country with its military prowess, leading the other lords to believe that Jim had been captured and had then betrayed his master. And when the other lords were forced to agree to terms, Jim had finally admitted that he had broken with them and had returned to Tervan to reclaim the conquered territories.
Tervan was a country of very few inhabitants that had, for instance, the luxury of having a capital in his name and no military power. However, there was an older, powerful figure. There was a very good man named Nell (one of the leaders of a sect of his brother’s ruling party in the rebel kingdom that were also fighting in the realm of the White Kings). Nell had the knowledge and authority to control the kingdom, in other words, it was simply a city of some people, and this man was no more a tyrant than was his father or even his brother, which made Tervan some of the safest cities. But in reality a few years later Tervan was a city of some powerful people and it was a place where the army met their most desperate fight. So Jim, the man who once commanded two hundred thousand troops in the army of the White Kings, began to realize that the king of their country might be doing something wrong, and would definitely be forced into accepting terms with Guts and a handful of other nobles, all with the express intent that he should go back to Tervan and negotiate peacefully with the King before he turned the power back on the rebellion and began to build a new power. In fact, he was even willing to risk life and limb to ensure that all the kingdom’s major cities would be liberated. But he was also determined not to let the King back in on what he wanted, and to allow James to pursue a peace for the better part of the time that would be necessary to make this happen. Jim did not seem to realize that when there was a King in front of him he would have to go back to Tervan in order to make all of the major cities safe for the king, and the whole uprising would be over quickly.
When James walked up to the king himself and gave his speech, he could feel something inside of him. He knew what this power said and could feel an inner emotion from the man. There was almost a feeling like all the men he had dealt battle with had come back to battle with the real power. The men who had made that fight would be remembered with

As the villagers anger was too great, they took Jim and burned him on the stake. Then the unofficial leader of Tervan shouted, “Off with the kings dense head!” From there, all the men and adolescent boys gathered around, and marched off to the small town of Herbot. This town, with only a population of 200, will be the future site to the upcoming battle. Once the villagers of Tervan had gathered at the appointed spot, they began fortifying positions, making weapons, and planning strategies. This was the routine for many weeks, until one dawn, they spotted the kings army.
There it was, the 500 villagers from Tervan in addition to the few villagers from Herbot that opposed the king, standing against the kings 7th guard regiment. One of the 10 veteran armies that Magnuss grandfather had used to conquer this land years before. The raw discipline of the kings 7th unnerved the villagers. The leader of the villagers took four steps forward, and addressed the undisciplined rag of peasants. “This day, on this bright dawn, the enemy army will know fear! For we shall set our mind to purpose and show them steel!”
