Guidelines That Pertain the Environment as Outlined by the Greater London Authority
1.0 Introduction
This report will discuss and outline the policies/guidelines that pertain the environment as outlined by the greater London authority (GLA) and the mayor of London. This report will outline how these policies have been implemented. This discussion will examine both the progress, proposals of the environment policies till date and among others and will seek to analyse, evaluate both the acceptance, methodologies by Londoners of these policies, plans as set by the mayor of London ( Boris Johnson) making full use of the publications which relate to the policies.
In this report we will have a brief look at both what the mayor of London and the greater London authority (GLA) responsibilities and what their powers are as defined by the legislation, mainly the greater London authority act of 1999 and the greater London authority act of 2007.
GLA (Greater London Authority)
The GLA (greater London authority) is a body which manages the governing of 610 square miles of GL (Greater London) and this body is usually made up of an elected mayor which also has an additional twenty five members whom are voted into the office as well. It integrates the other major plans in London’s development and also maintains the certain departments as outlined below;
LDA (London Development Agency), until the 31st of march 2012 , when it was merged into the main body of the greater London authority (GLA), it was as a particular arm of the greater London authority (GLA) and focused on the sustainability and bringing up the development and economic growth for its 32 boroughs and the city.
LFEPA (London fire and emergency planning authority) which maintains and manages the London fire safety.
TFL (Transport for London), TFL manages the transportation system which entails the road, railway and the congestion for London.
Metropolitan police authority (MPA) now known as the mayor’s office for policing and crime till January 2012 provides adequate policing via the MPS (metropolitan police service).
