During the Medieval period a mans life was all about becoming a warrior and gaining respect. Gawain does just that when he stands up for his king. Throughout the story the main character, Gawain has to make wise decisions that will affect him now and in the future. The test that he faces will determine his character. The author uses supernatural elements to give the story a greater impact on the reader. The story “Sir Gawain and the Green knight” is a romance, because it involves a near- perfect hero who faces a test ad it contains supernatural elements.
Gawain is a near perfect hero, but for simple mistake is a flaw to his character. In every good fantasy there is at least one hero to save the day. Gawain does just that when the Green Knight intrudes on a party. The people of the town were frightened and refused to approach the Green Knight. The Green Knights irritated states, “I only wish to play a new years game”. (Page 158 background). Gawain accepts an ax blow-for-blow game that the Green Knight proposes when no other knight would. The game turns sour, but the Green Knight lets him face the ax in one year and a day. Like a good hero, Gawain keeps his word, but before doing that, he meets a hunter who tests him. Unfortunately, Sir Gawain fails that test.
Wesley: A Hero is a role-playing game written for the use of kids. Written by Wesley E. Clark, it is made to be played by kids of all ages. The player takes control of a soldier, whom he is sent on an adventure to fight. The soldier learns he is being watched. After he is defeated in a battle, the soldier is finally brought out of the battlefield by Gawain. When the war has ended, the soldier returns home, and asks if there is anyone among the soldiers that his friends will love or not. Gawain tells him, no, there’s none.
Celestia is an evil human world where an endless stream of bad things happen that only bad people ever seem to get. In this game you are only free if you follow the rules, not the gameplay. However, in games that use a story-mode format, the player assumes that the rules are a “starcade” (what happens to them on their own) and try to be as fair and straightforward as possible. With a few things in common, they all turn out bad:
They won’t be honest about their behavior,
They won’t even know the difference between being honest with it and being true to your morals or ethics.
And because the rules for both sides of this debate are so open-ended, players can be very creative on the part of each other as to what’s good and bad. For instance, a character named Jareth-Bart gets killed in a game where many people talk about the “disguise” from a point of view that he doesn’t have. He had to find himself the true thief so he would be as honest as possible. It turns out that the players need to make that distinction in “rule making” so that they can make it work. To make it seem like “good” and not “bad” or anything like that, the game encourages players to just take “good enough” on different days.
The game encourages players to start a series of stories about what they happen to meet by getting rid of dead bodies and turning heads. This is not a perfect system, but it’s what does work.
While the rules of each side of this debate are much the same, the game’s rule book allows players to create very specific rules for their characters based on their choices in the main story. These rules are then used in a very simple yet beautiful way, by the player character.
The key features of this game are its rule book, written by the developers, but with the exception of the beginning of each game page. The rules are laid out with an understanding of what happens as you play this game. The
Gawain faces that test when the hunter proposes a trading game in which everything the two receive each day must be given to the other individual. The first two days, Gawain follows the rules; ” For two days, Gawain accepts only kisses.”, he even turns down the hunters wife when she offers him sex.(page 158 background). On the third day she offers him a green sash which will keep whoever wears it alive. Thinking of his own life, Gawain keeps the magic sash for himself and goes to face the ax. The Green Knight believes that Gawain is the best and, that if he couldnt pass his test, no one can.
The author uses supernatural elements to add more effect to the visual image. The green skin brings a bright but frightening knight, instead of a regular person on a horse. The red eyes show that the Green Knight is not a friendly or nice person. The beheading shows the ruthlessness of knights during the medieval period. The Green Knight uses “A huge new Danish ax to deliver his blow with, a viscous swine of a bit bent back to handle”.(
