As what I read from the book, I learn that inheritance is the process by which an offspring cell or organism becomes predisposed to characteristics of its parent cell or organism. As the book says, if both homologous chromosomes in an organism have the same allele at a given gene locus, the organism is said to be homozygous, and if two homolohous chromosomes have different alleles at a given gene locus, the organism is heterozygous. The similarities and differences between parents and their children have been a source of much attention and speculation through the times. It was thought that inherited characteristics were transmitted to a new generation through the blood from both parents. We now know that equal numbers of chromosomes from each parent are combined during fertilization. These chromosomes carry the units of inheritance called the genes.
The process of inharitance itself was found by Gregor Mendel long before DNA, chromosomes, or meiosis had been discovered. Mendel chose to study individual characteristics that had unmistakably different form, such as white versus purple flowers. He then followed the inharitance of these traits for several generations, counting the numbers of offspring with each type of trait. And by analyzing these numbers, the
basic patterns of inharitance became clear. Numerical analysis was something of an innovation in Mendel’s time.
Having determined the inharitance models for single traits, Mendel than turned to more complex traits in peas. Mendel than realized that these results could be explained if the genes for the color and shape are inherited independently of each other and not influenced each other during gamete formation.
From that, I want to explain and give an example on how inheritance can effects some people. I have an asthma disease that I got since I was 10 years old. My doctor told me that I have an asthma disease because my father had that disease also. Asthma is a lung disease that can be life threatening. Asthma is a chronic, or long-term, disease that can affect you for the rest of your life. Asthma is a serious, sometimes life-threatening respiratory disease that affects the quality of life for millions of people. Asthma symptoms may be activated or caused by many agents. Not all asthmatics react to the same triggers. Additionally, the effect that each trigger has on the lungs are varies from one individual to another.
For those suffering from asthma, knowing what will increase, plays an important role in controlling it. While the exact cause is still a mystery, being aware of what triggers my asthma attacks will help me to prevent those attacks from occurring or becoming
