1. Alcohol Changes Peoples Behavior
To prove that alcohol consumption makes people more aggressive, I have chosen to design an experiment using a group of friends in a bar. One night I will go to a bar with my friends who have not drunk anything earlier that day, and we will order non-alcoholic drinks. In the same bar, I will have two helpers who will be trying to set my friends off by cutting them in line, bumping into them or simply being rude. After my helpers begin disturbing my friends, I am able to notice that two of my friends act indifferent, while the other three politely tell them to stop their behavior.
Another night, I went with the same group of friends to a bar. Not having drunk anything that day, we decided to order alcoholic drinks this time. An hour later, my two helpers tried upsetting my friends using the same methods as they did, the last time we were at the bar. This time however, one of my friends used foul language with the helpers, three of them entered in a very heated conversation where foul language and physical actions were taken. My other friend was the only one who did not get into a conflict with my helpers because he wasnt able to notice what they were trying to do.
Comparing the two situations, it is obvious that my experimental hypothesis was proven right. To prove my hypothesis I used alcohol as the independent variable, my helpers as the control condition and the fact that they havent been drinking any alcoholic drinks the day of the experiment as the experimental condition. My friends became more aggressive, in one way or the other after they consumed alcohol. That was clearly showed when my two helpers tried upsetting them.
