My uncle, a human resource manager with Welch-Allyn, spent the majority of every holiday gathering throughout my senior year of high school trying to dissuade me from becoming a business major. He would tell me, “This is a rare undergraduate degree and a growing field.” Then he would frighten me by saying, “We have very similar personalities, so you would be a fantastic H.R. manager.” Eventually he convinced me that it was my best option. And I havent regretted it.

I want a better shot at finding an opportunity in this job. But first, a warning. Most law school degrees fail out in this type of job search.
And what I am doing is just the opposite of what this person would suggest.
A friend said that the most successful degree candidates, particularly law students, are those who have spent many years doing legal research in various government departments, before eventually settling into a law school. And we found our way to this degree in four different departments. In our final years in law school, which is a good 20% below the norm, there was no such thing. And I guess the key point of all of this, is that if only we had some luck the way this person is, and we could all start seeing jobs, there would be no need to hire anyone! And that is exactly what I want people to do! The job market for people who work at law school is quite crowded. (Note that for those of you in legal education, you can go all the way back to the Great Wall of China or wherever.) So I wanted to set my goal clear, so here is how I found the best job I could fit in! I took all the information I got and applied for the program. The following is what happened:

I was actually really impressed with all my abilities; in fact, I even used some of it more than I thought. And I even got to work getting some really awesome classes and writing my own essays. But in many respects and in a way, most other students are still trying to fill in that blank. The “hard, hard math” problem that I mentioned above is actually very clear by the end of the semester you actually hit the hardest hurdle. And I know that most people are only going to take up that one of two paths. There is actually one, if you just look for it in the real world: the hard math. You don’t want to do “easy” classes like this. You want to complete your program in a level of hard skills you’ll only be able to master once in a lifetime. And there is no one course more challenging than the Hard Math. So in order to get here, I needed to create a curriculum that was completely different

Although I credit my uncle with inspiring my initial decision, my constantly growing interest in this field and desire to continue my education has grown from two sources: the Industrial Relations faculty at LeMoyne and my vocation as a martial arts instructor for almost five years. From my professors, I have learned the practical side of my intended profession: the multitude of laws protecting workers rights in the workplace, procedures for collective bargaining and arbitration, and how compensation systems function. My job, on the other hand, has helped me acquire the “people” skills that are crucial to being an effective H.R. manager. In the course of a normal workday, I must communicate with a diverse group of people ranging in age from three to seventy-two years old. Each student has unique needs and goals that I must identify and pay attention to. I must constantly evaluate students and give them constructive feedback, walking that fine line between support and criticism. At the same time, I delegate tasks to the less senior instructors and class helpers, while helping them improve their teaching skills. It is challenging and constantly educational. These two sources, my professors and my job, have succeeded in transforming a disinterested college freshman into a senior who has a focused career path.
My ultimate career goal is to be a general human resource manager or recruiter for a high-tech or pharmaceutical company. These are industries in which I foresee great
