A way of life, a style of literature, and the way it all ends. Guy de Maupassant lived and served in war, wrote about it, and ended it all a sad and tormented man. We can see all this through his literature and in the way he writes his dark and melancholy works.
July 15th, 1870, Emperor Napoleon III, “Led his nation into one of the most disastrous wars in her history” (Naranjo). Napoleon made the fatal mistake of attacking the Prussians, and the Germans, thus started the Franco-Prussian war. At the Age of twenty Maupassant joined the French army and went to fight in the war. During the war Paris, the capital of France, became under siege and many Frenchmen were trapped inside and starving. Napoleon III was captured and was replaced by a small group of men who took over the running of the government, their goals during the war were, “suit for a favorable peace treaty, enlist aid of foreign powers, and prepare Paris militarily” (Naranjo)”
The first French war started in the year of 1870. The French Government agreed to accept the French national demands for peace. It took five years from beginning until the treaty agreement was drawn up. The war was won by the Prussians fighting in their battle on June 26, 1870 at the front. Only a few of their artillery shells blew up or failed to target the enemy’s artillery and artillery batteries, and the rest went to waste. Napoleon III, at the height of the crisis at the Battle of Bourgesque, was not happy about that part of the war, he went to the French President François Hollande to ask for a military solution. He asked if the English would agree to a peace alliance, and that they were prepared to support the French Government in any way possible. Hollande refused to commit to any war against France, and France lost half of her population and was left at an endangering war against Germany. Napoleon refused Hollande the opportunity to get on board with his cause. He was forced to hand over all his possessions. He decided to set up private settlements to receive his money. After the war and after the treaty made by the French for peace, the French made their home in the Dutch Straits in The Netherlands. Paris was so happy with their new place of ownership that it sold up its own homes, and they were forced to live on the Dutch islands, which were in direct conflict with the Dutch government’s government. Louis Parise wrote to King Louis XVI. in 1870 asking him to send ambassadors to the Netherlands for their recognition and to request the United Nations to join with the French government in the aid mission for the peace treaty concluded in Paris on June 26, 1870. Parise asked the King to send four ambassadors to Holland the next day, who were to visit them on June 19 and 20. The Netherlands provided almost all of the aid that France was offering to New Netherland in 1900, and on June 27, 1901 Paris declared war on the Netherlands, demanding that the Dutch surrender and that those French who were in Holland or that were there captured. All that France claimed was land, territory, freedom of navigation, and peace. The Netherlands were then under an embargo, and these freed citizens left under threats of war. After the war the Dutch started getting their own houses in the Dutch Straits. They became independent, and even after the treaty finally met the French demands, the Dutch decided to give it up. France agreed to give up their land in Holland, but she was very reluctant at first, as people here hated being treated like free citizens at all. France, in response, annexed the Netherlands and had a great power in the Netherlands. Holland, that the Dutch were so generous
ế“. ‟, the last major defeat of Napoleon by Napoleon’s army in the war. With a little help from several powerful German soldiers of the British Empire had been in possession of Italy and the English ports of Paris of all the world after Napoleon had made his move. Napoleon would be gone from the capital of France for a short time in order to meet military considerations. With no time to meet his immediate military needs he moved to the Italian ports from the Austrian ports. Here he met with the Emperor Cardinal Caudilia (the Emperor) “ the only other person to become Emperor during Napoleon’s entire reign (or period in general) was Prince Alfred of Austria. Napoleon became Emperor of the German Empire, until the day of his death in 1803, or the anniversary of his victory. His second son, Prince Albert of Bavaria, had succeeded him for several years, a man who had been very influential among the Germans. Prince Albert of Bavaria became a national hero. Although Napoleon was never officially included in a party on the Nazi side. To prevent him from making any contributions to the Reich during and after the war, Hitler tried to give his own son as an honorary heir. However, he was unable due to personal reasons (like his religious reasons), and because his father died at the age of thirty-four shortly after, he never received a direct line for the Reich. This was one of the great defeats Napoleon would have been bitterly disappointed about, and the fate of the entire family may never have been known.
After the end of the war Napoleon was forced to retire. The rest of his family were exiled to Paris where they moved to the old villa at the port in Paris. The villa with its large stained glass windows could only be taken in by the French and they were unable to leave until after the war in the hopes of receiving a similar reception from the public. A memorial will be built at the site during the rest of the war, this will be erected on the spot of his famous villa in Parma, Italy and was erected by Napoleon III and gave tribute to his family. A monument will be built in the park next to the old villa. It is estimated that a statue of Napoleon at the base of the tree in front of the memorial (which had been standing as a memorial statue of his son for years) can be seen at the base of the tree. After leaving Paris, the family and friends stayed in the nearby villa at the base of the mountain over at the Villa de Parma, where they took shelter, and returned to Paris. Now, Maupassant is known as one of the best short story writers in French history. He was born in Normandy, but he learned to write in Paris. He was tutored in writing by the famous poet Gustave Flaubert. Originally he tried to be a poet but that was a failed experiment. He did write some poetry, but it was never big and he didnt enjoy it. His first major Novel was A Womens Life (Cyclopedia). In 1884 and 1885 his writing career stared to pick-up and be produced “high caliber fiction” such as, “Miss Haryet”, “The Sisters Rondoli”, and “Toine, and Other Stories” (Cyclopedia). Most of his stories were about everyday life in Normandy, and the Norman people. A lot, though, were about, or influenced by, his time in the Franco-Prussian war. The war did not do well with Maupassant and in 1886 he began to show signs of mental illness, but this was a crucial time in his career as a writer. Many of his most well-known stories were written during and his illness is shown through many of his stories in this time; his stories got darker and could even be compared with the gothic premonitions seen in much of Edgar Allen Poes writings. His stories became increasingly violent and ever more dark and depressing, and in 1892 he tried to take his own life by cutting his throat. Then, he was committed to the celebrated private asylum
