To begin with the text I would first like to explain the title itself ‘the false gems’ further in the story we realise that the gems which M Lanvin the protagonist of the story believes to be fake were in reality real and the wife he considered the perfect virtuous women a man could have was infact fake and was having an affair with another man who had presented her with these gems.
I would like to keep this essay rather a summary short by giving the meaning behind this text to a reader reading this text initially makes us feel that he had the perfect married life and when she died his whole life had gotten miserable but when we dig deeper into it we realise that this whole time the two things Mr lantin despised her for were the two secrets she lived with the theatre bieng the place where she would go dressed up modestly all the time and the so called imitation jewelery
