NAME: SHIRISH VASU NARAYANANID NUMBER- 638303HABITS OF STRONG ETHICAL LEADERSHIPTo move from just being an ethical person in everyday life experiences to being an ethical leader in a corporation requires an understanding of the ethical decision making process. Leadership also requires an understanding of the firmâs vision and values, as well as the challenges of responsibility and risk in achieving organizational objectives. Strong ethical leadership is based on facing and tackling issues faced by companies on a daily basis. Ethical leadership consists on both the experience and knowledge to make the correct choice. Strong ethical leaders have both the bravery and are very informative in making accurate decisions that will help in the future.  Strong ethical leaders should stick to their philosophies and if necessary, they should be ready to leave the organization if the system ends up getting faulty. There are blunders that do happen in people who possess strong ethical character, mainly if they feel that the organization ethical culture is being outside of their field of making decisions that exist in the family or home.  This occurrence has been seen in countless of situations of so called good community citizens associating with ethical misconduct that may lead to corporate ethical tragedy. In the long run, if a companyâs leader fails to satisfy stakeholders, he or she will not retain a leadership position. A leader must not only have the respect of stakeholders but must also provide a standard of ethical conduct to them. A recent example of character on the part of a leader was seen in the case of the Omni hotel chainâs choice to slowly remove adult movies from its hotels. Omni chairman Bob Rowling feels that the hotel chain should not make income on x rated films and he had the bravery, along with the companyâs head, to remove adult movies â typically a moneymaker at its hotels and motels nationwide. As his defense, Rowling said that he was the father of two young boys and just didnât feel that this sort of stuff ought to be doing at its hotels. The choice was seen by many as gutsy because pay to view X-rated movies are a profit-maker for most hotels. This case could also be viewed of as ethical decision making and a appetite to do right, habits that will follow.Ethical Leaders Have Strong Personal Character.Ethical leaders have convincing individual character. Leaders with clear appeal serve as example and model to his coworkers in the organization. He can endure any persuasion and remain confident in his belief and values. Inspiring leaders who are ethical is far more difficult than one expects it to be. How to educate and mold a moral person in the corporate world is difficult. It requires knowledgeable skills to determine the ethical problems that are present in the day-to-day events in the corporate world. One problem that has to be addressed regarding the development of beliefs and merits is the presence of cultural diversity in some business environments. The privacy of certain people who have different values and culture must be obeyed. It is important that certain people have to be prepared with intellectual skills that can address the complications that are characteristic of ethical issues. Character develops over time. Many of the people think that much of a individuals personality is formed early in life. However, we do not know exactly how early or how much character develops during this time period. But, it is safe to say that a personâs character does not change as quickly. A persons noticeable action is an sign of his or her character. This action can be convincing or frail, good or bad. A person with strong character shows ambition, initiative, motivation, self-discipline, effort, and nerve. They see what they want and end up going after it. they attract supporters. On the other hand, a person with weak character shows none of these traits. They do not know what they really want. their traits are jumbled; they hesitate and are inconsistent and will therefore  will end up not attracting  any supporters. The question is how to teach or develop a moral person in a corporate environment, Thomas white a leading figure on character development, believes that they should focus more on the side of ââethical reasoningââ rather than them trying to be a ââmoral personââ.A major issue in traditional character development is that certain beliefs are used to teach a value or philosophy. This method may be unfitting for a business environment when cultural diversity and privacy must be respected. On the other hand, trying to teach certain people who want to learn the right way and not only the corporate values and ethical codes and making them equipped with skills to  teaching individuals who want to do the right thing not only the corporate values and ethical codes and equipping them with the intellectual skills to address the complications of ethical issues is the correct approach.Ethical Leaders Have a Passion to âDo Right. This passion, motivation or encouragement is the glue that holds ethical concepts together. It shapes upon what James Q. Wilson (1993) termed the âmoral sense.â It is related to what Louis P. Pojman (2000) might think of as âthe moral life.â Like many character or  dispositional features, it is not always pure where the passion  to âdo right comes from. Other people may be born with this intelligence; while others progress it over time through spiritual, normal or realistic foundations. Irrespective of its foundations, it is hard to see someone operating as a moral leader without it, and it becomes the essential quality which leads to or enables the other characteristics or qualities. Leaders who own the moral sense or incentive to do what is right, have probably accepted the basic purposes of or reasons for morality. Whether seen as committed or influential, these leaders see at least the following purposes for morality: to keep the culture from falling apart; to perfect human suffering and to encourage human to be successful; to choose on clashes or curiosity in just and organized ways; and to allocate admiration and fault, reward the good and discipline the guilty. To all of this could be added, of course, because it is the right thing to do.Having a passion to do right designates a individual feature of not only able to recognize the significance of ethical behavior but also the eagerness to face issues and make difficult choices. At times, youll make a judgment but still think if you chose the right way. You may feel distressed and uncomfortable, but these circumstances can help you to believe in yourself and your instincts. If you calm your nervousness and look rationally at the situation, your instincts will often guide you in the right direction, the key to this is Ethical living and leading which takes bravery and belief. It means doing the right thing, even when the right thing isnt accepted or easy. But when you make such choices based on your core values, then you make an impression to the world that you canât be boughtâ and you lead and set an good example to ur team. Once you recognize your companys core values as well as your own values, you can start to set an impression to your team and your organization. Actions always speak louder than words, so make sure you do what you actually plan to do and hope others to follow as you do.
