Inspired by the McCarthy era, The Crucible involves frightening realism and many aspects that give insight on the events of the Salem witch trials in 1692. As many things are taken away from the civilians, pride is the only thing they are left to fight for. Pride is the fuel that feeds the fiery events in Salem, In Arthur Millers play The Crucible. Hale exhibits such proudness by not speaking up which left Danforth ultimately too stubborn to go back on his words so he continued with the hangings which left John Proctor to hang after he refused to let his name taint him forever by not hanging.
Why is hale proud?
– Because he didnt want to speak up and go against the court
– He was too prideful to stand up for Proctor when he knew that he wasnt bad,
– that he was just supporting his wife. He had pride
– He was described as an intellectual , he felt the pride of the specialist

Why is Danforth proud?
– He would rather let innocent people hang than admit he was wrong.
– A little pride is always good, but like all things, a little too much of a good thing can become bad.
