Adlai Stevenson once said, “America is much more than a geographical fact. It is a political and moral fact – the first community in which men set out in principle to institutionalize freedom, responsible government, and human equality.” The United States of America is made up of many things; economy, freedom, human rights, women rights, etc. However, the ones that I think are the most important are Freedom, Politics, and the Laws based on Christian values.
Freedom is not a big word, but it is was many fought and dies for for centuries. We do have restrictions that may sometimes keep us back, but then again, if you were in a world with complete freedom, there would be nothing but yourself. Without freedom we wouldnt be able to vote on decisions that affect our lives and we have choices. We vote to choose our leader, which some other countries arent allowed to do. Also, without freedom, women would not have the same rights that men have and we wouldnt be treated equal. We wouldnt be able to vote, drive, and get a good education. We wouldnt be able to get the same kinds of jobs that men can have. Freedom also means that I have the right to control my life and what I do. I can make my own decisions. In some countries people are forced to marry, take over a certain business, or join the army. In America we all have choices and rights that no one can take away from us. So for these reasons, Freedom is a major part of the U.S.s “quilt”.
Politics is also a part of us. Even if you do not realize it, everything we do is directly related to politics – from the price we pay on a train to what time the subway will stay open until. Constitution has set all the rules and structure of our society. Everything about your daily life is affected by politics and the government.
Lastly, Christianity is a major part. The founding of this country is basically formed by a Christian foundation. The United States is not a Christian nation. Its just based on it, but it does mean that the foundations of the U.S. support a Christian view of human nature and Gods providence. Many leaders believed that people should elect and support leaders with character and integrity. George Washington even said, “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, Religion and Morality are indispensable supports.” Benjamin Rush talked about the religious foundation of the republic that demanded good leadership. He said that, “the only foundation for a useful education in a republic is to be laid on the foundation of religion. Without this there can be no virtue, and without virtue there can be no liberty, and liberty is the object and life of all republican governments.” So as you can see, Christianity is a big part and is very much influenced.
In conclusion, I think the most important most important are Freedom,
