The Oval Office
The elections are approaching me just as quickly as my life as a college student is. This will be the first year I am privileged enough to vote. I think I know more about politics than the majority of kids my age. My knowledge comes from my desire to be a Law school graduate and hopefully one day a successful politician myself. The country right now is in crisis under the current administration. I try to stay as close to the middle in political views as possible. People that are too conservative, or to liberal, are just not good for the majority of the population in our country. The next administration I believe will be a democratic lead one. I would address three defining issues if I was the head of our next administration address and change certain policies.
The first issue I believe the next administration must look at is the economic situation in this country. The dollar has dropped below the Euro for the first time since the Euros inception in 2003. Banks have carelessly handed out money to people who cant possibly pay them back. The next administration must face these challenges. They will need to stimulate the economy by giving bigger tax breaks. This would hopefully allow people to spend money they otherwise wouldnt have and put it back into the economy. I would also lower loan and mortgage rates. Another way to boost our economy would be to help small businesses by giving them incentives and tax breaks. You could give a small business of 10 people maybe a goal of getting an employment of 30 people within two years and if they reach your goal then they receive extra money from the government. This would allow small businesses to employ more people and thus putting more money into the economy.
The second issue is the health care programs in this country. The CHIP program, which is currently being destroyed by the current administration, must be reinitiated and strengthened. There are already enough under covered or non-covered children in this country. Child health care should be a major concern for our government, because if people have to pay higher amounts of money for their own insurance coverage, the economy will continue to weaken. We need to get the middle class more money to put back into our economy.
The third issue of course is the war. This war at first seemed justified to me, and the majority of the country. Saddam Hussein needed to be stopped before he was capable of greater atrocities to mankind. I applaud President Bush for what he did in Iraq. But now the war has dragged on for way to long. The war costs us around 8 billion dollars a month, money which we could desperately use to stimulate
