This paper will describe health care information system terms and how the system must adhere to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act regulations.
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability ACTThe Health Insurance portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is a public law enacted by congress in 1996, which consist of two title parts. The first title consists of the act” which” protects workers and their families from losing health coverage when a change or loss of job takes place. The second is the establishment of national standards for electronic health record as well as national identities for health care providers, health insurance plans, and employers. The second part of the HIPAA act also protects the privacy and security of a patients health information “which” is known as PHI.
Protected Health InformationProtected health information (PHI) is a system that allows physicians to look at the entire longitudinal health record for each individual. The protected health information can transmit into three ways, which can be document into a computer as well as shared through electronic medical records. The protected health information also can be documented in written records and shared orally in personal or by telephone conversation between health care professional However, the patient information must have security at all-time, and every hospital, and physicians offices must adhere to HIPAA”s set rules and limits on who can look at and receive an individuals health information.
Electronic health recordThe electronic health record (EHR) is an internal electronic record of an individuals health information “which are generated through many encounters in any delivery setting. The electronic health record also provides information “which” concerns a patients demographics, problems, medications, vital signs, progress notes, immunizations, laboratory data, and radiology reports. The system also gives health care professionals the ability to access a complete record of a patients healthcare as well as provide support to other care related activities “which” are directly or indirectly through interface.
Electronic medical RecordThe electronic medical record (EHR) is an electronic record of health-related information on an individual “which” create, gather, managed, and consult by authorized clinicians and staff within one health care organization. The electronic medical record provides diagnostic test, prescription for medications and clinicians health-related information. The primary use for electronic medical record in healthcare is to provide an underlying patient information computerized functions such as drug to drug interaction, recommendations for care practice, and to improve clinical decisions. The electronic medical records also provides a broad spectrum of clinical personnel who provides the individuals care as well as allow clinical personnel to deliver, and coordinate care, and promote the persons wellness.
