Americans have different opinions when it comes to marijuana. A majority of Americans find marijuana offensive, even though, if the studies are right, a third of them had to try it a few times before they could be sure. Humans have always used drugs, natural or otherwise and people do not want others to tell us which ones are okay to use and which ones are not. People are against marijuana because of the health risks of chronic marijuana use. On the other hand people that are for marijuana will blame the government about false accusations on its effects on health. I feel that marijuana should be legalized.
No one overdoses on marijuana and you dont have to use much to get a desired effect. People overdose from drugs sold over the counter all the time. People can also over drink alcohol and these drugs can lead to death by using them just one time. Anyone familiar with pot knows about the “munchies.” People weak from AIDS and anorexia use marijuana to put on needed weight. Cancer patients smoke pot to help with the nausea they get from chemotherapy, and doctors recommend it for epilepsy, arthritis, migraines and glaucoma. The federal government should at least allow the medical use of marijuana.
People in America are not allowed to grow their own marijuana. This leads to overcrowded jails with drug offenders. This forces the early release of violent criminals, including murderers to make room for people who were possible just growing marijuana. On average, we sentence nonviolent drug offenders to five times more jail time than those convicted of manslaughter. Americans use marijuana more frequently than they do all other illegal drugs combined. They are no more criminals than people who like to have a drink to relax after work.
Another reason why marijuana should be legalized is because the government can make money from the sales of marijuana which mean the people will have to pay fewer taxes because of that money
