He or she will force you, without even trying, to constantly think about them. You will begin to feel butterflies tickling in your stomach, fingertips and knees, and in every other atom of you. You will feel an increased level of surplus energy and creativity. You will be wearing a silly smile all the time, and your eyes will shine.
Once in a while that someone will exit you life again and make your heart stop beating. That is when you feel completely and utterly broken. You may even be able to see your heart lying on the floor in front of you, “shatter[ed] like a shotgun pellet, shards lodging in [your] guts”. You will still, without even trying, constantly think about him or she. The butterflies will be replaced with something that feels like endless pain and your energy level will be at its lowest. We all have or will try this at least once in our lives, and Kirsty Logan clearly is not an exception. The short story “The Rental Heart” is a science fiction, which we can easily see because of all the symbols such as rented metallic hearts, heartbeats being attuned to help please the lover, and possibility to live without a heart.

Now, if you’re bored of this type of story about a lonely, and sad, young man dying with a broken heart, then maybe you should read The Art of a Broken Heart. The book comes out a couple of weeks before the release of The Art of a Broken Heart on Friday November 6th 2008, & is a new series of stories about a very emotional man. The first one is called ‘The Sorrowless Heart’ ‛[1]Shattered Heart, an epic romance between a young man, his wife, his children, and a few friends.

It’s the first story in a series of two or three stories. There are a couple of characters that are very sad, and are probably at least as depressed, but not as often. The main character is an outcast teenaged girl with a mysterious and seemingly impossible-to-treat heart that she is haunted by, who is apparently missing and who may have gone missing in a nearby town. One of the men in the story is a college boyfriend who I’m told is very distraught, and in some strange attempt at humor, asks her out on a date. She has never been married, and she is struggling to cope. She makes several friends, which leads to them wanting to hook up and talk about a romantic future. Unfortunately, they both end up staying tied up by the police for over an hour or so due to the nightlife in town, and find themselves in hot pursuit of a young man as a result. He’s not the only one who wants this man’s heart ‛. The two main characters leave the town in a white Dodge Neon, at a young age, but eventually find themselves in a very dangerous locale. Their only hope is an older man with a long history and a reputation for being the person who broke his heart. The writer of this beautiful book, Mr. Martin, has written some good stories to try and understand the reader’s feelings, and this story, by all accounts, is an engrossing read.

We haven’t included the story in the book’s synopsis at the end. It does note that it’s very rare for a story like this to be released through our publisher, but given it’s being written in 2008 instead of 2009, we may include it in future books.
It’s an interesting story that I wouldn’t have given the same credence if it weren’t for a few pages of notes from a very young man about the heartbroken young girl who is his friend and who has been his mentor and a mentor for years. The writing is as follows:

The story is about an incredibly heartbroken main character – or actually the main character never really becomes heartbroken at all, because that is what the story is all about; how these people in this unreal world avoid getting their hearts broken. We are not being told what the main characters name is, but we know that the “he” is an adult. This is because he tells us a story about Jacob, a boyfriend he had ten years ago, when they were teenagers. That means the narrator must be at least 23, since you become a teenager when you turn 13. What we do not know is whether the main character is a female or a male, and it is almost impossible for the reader to conjecture, since the narrator dates several different people – both men and women. I cannot help but wonder – what if a person changes gender every time it changes its heart? Or maybe gender does not exist in this world at all? What I know is that Kirsty Logan writes in an article for The Skinny that she is a lesbian, so it is easy to figure where she gets her inspiration.
In “The Rental Heart” we are invited into a world where heartbreak-pain only exists in ones mind, and cannot be felt anywhere else. You simply just have to change your heart at the local heart rental place whenever you feel heartbroken. First time the narrator rents, is when he meets Jacob. They fall in love, and the more he loves Jacob, the heavier his heart feels and when they break up, he, “ha[s] to drink every night to wash the shards [from his heart] out.” This tells us something about how the pain
