That year, Henrys father purchased their familys freedom and four years later, Henry was able to attend the American Missionary Association and Atlanta University. In 1872, Henry Flipper enrolled at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. (Vicks & Torok) “Buffalo soldiers” were highly respected African-Americans who were former slaves and black Civil War soldiers. “Buffalo soldiers” also served in the Indian wars and were primarily commanded by white officers.
In 1881, Henry Flipper was stationed at Fort Davis under Colonel William Rufus Shafter, a commanding officer. Henry Flipper was quickly charged by Shafter for embezzlement and unbecoming an officer, which “was probably a racially-motivated attack.” (Vicks & Torok) Flipper was found guilty in June of 1882, dismissed from the service, and soon moved to El Paso, Texas. 5. On March 30, 2012, Henry Flipper was shot dead at a Fort Worth, Texas, office. In response, Texas Governor Rick Perry announced that Texas will be “dedicated to the restoration; destruction, and the reparation of all those who are killed under this administration.” Perry’s announcement had a devastating impact: Faced with an attack against George D. W. Bush and his administration’s commitment to an “anti-Muslim agenda,” Texas would be a home for the Islamic Terrorists, who were responsible for murdering, maiming and raping countless Muslims and Hispanics in the country’s history. A few hours after Henry Flipper was shot dead, Governor Rick Perry issued an order of separation between the United States and Saudi Arabia. The Muslim-majority country was designated a military zone in response to Operation Enduring Freedom. In response to President George W. Bush’s visit and his declaration, the Supreme Court on February 21, 2012, issued a 5-4 vote of no confidence in the Obama administration’s ability to bring order to this world’s most dangerous place. Perry’s decision is a significant defeat for the Americans, but it is also important to remember the great many American martyrs killed the day after the American President was sworn in. These are those who will never get the opportunity to go back to fighting the terrorists again.
