Shakespeare was a famous English poet and playwright during the Renaissance Era. He wrote comedies , tragedies and history plays. The play Midsummer Nights Dream is a comedy about lovers, and fairies who interfere with the normal world and manipulate people. Act two scene two is important because Oberon anoints Titanias eyelids, which makes her fall in love with an ass head, this represents the theme of magic vs. ordinary. Also in Act two scene two Hermia rejects Lysander representing the theme of male vs. female.
Act 2 scene 2 is a very important but unnoticeable thing happens. Lysander tells Hermia “One turf shal serve as pillow for us both; / One heart, one bed, two bosoms, and one troth.” (2.2 47-48). This means that Lysander wanted to sleep with Hermia. Lysander also said “”Amen, amen” to that fair prayer, say I,/ And then end life when I end loyalty!/ Here is my bed. Sleep give thee al his rest!” (2.2 68-69). This is said after Hermia rejected Lysander so he is sleeping away from her. After Lysander and Hermia fall asleep Puck comes along and sees Lysander sleeping all alone, he assumes that Lysander is Demetrius and that is why he is sleeping away from Hermia who he assumes to be Helena. So he puts the nectar in his eyes witch is what makes him fall in love with Helena. Witch would have never happened if he slept with Hermia because the first thing that he would have seen when he woke up would be her. Hermias rejection to Lysander represents the theme of male vs. female.
In act 2 scene 2 the scene Oberon anoints Titanias eyes with the nectar. After he is done he says. “What thou seest when thou dost wake,/ Do it for thy true-love take,/ Love and languish for his sake:/ Be it ounce, or cat, or bear,/ Pard, or boar with bristled hair,/ In thy eye that shall appear/ When thou wakest, it is thy dear:/ Wake when some vile thing is near. (2.2 33-40).” In this quote Oberon says that when Titania wakes up she will fall in love with the next thing she seas even if its a cat, a bear, a leopard, or a wild boar. He also says that he hopes she wakes next to something nasty. When Oberon leaves Titania alone she is woken up by Bottom the weaver. At this point Puck has put a donkey face on Bottom. when Titania falls in love with Bottom she is blinded so when Oberon asks her for the Indian boy she gives him away. I think part of the scene represents the magic vs. ordinary theme because Oberon anointed Titanias eyes with the magic flower that made her fall in love with the first think she sees. I also think it represents the theme magic vs. ordinary better because Puck used magic to make Bottom have a donkey head there by interfering with the normal or ordinary.
Act two scene two represents the themes of magic vs. ordinary and male vs. female. I think both of those themes represent magic vs. ordinary and male vs. female. When because when Oberon anoints Titanias eyelids with the
