Humanities this year has been a very enjoyable experience. I have not always been very interested in history but this class has made it more interesting than it was in high school. Tying history to modern times always makes what we are learning make more sense and be more fun. The amount of work was not too bad either. Even though we had nightly readings and papers do it, was not an overload.
Some of the lectures were very boring though. Every once in a while there would be a lecture that was very interesting and that I really enjoyed. For the most part, either what was being discussed or the lecturer just put me to sleep. For a large lecture like that to be interesting and keep everyone awake, the person speaking needs to be lively and be interested in what they were discussing.
There were two or three speakers that I didnt think really cared or wanted to be talking to us. If someone doesnt want to be talking to us, it comes through while they are speaking and it made me not want to be there. I will say that I paid more attention in lectures when there was a response due on Friday. I also think having to write a response helped me to understand the lecture more. Having to write a paper about what you hear makes you sit down and really think about what was said. If there isnt a paper or response due, I tended to just listen but not really think about anything that was said.
I also liked learning about the reformation and the counter-reformation. I was born and raised a Catholic and I have always been very interested in the history of the church. In high school I wrote a few papers on the different popes and it was fun to go into more detail this semester about what actually happened and why the Catholic Church is the way it is today.
As I stated at the beginning of this paper, when it comes to history I have never been that interested. This semester, however, I realized there was so much more
