Imagine that warm cozy feeling and the warmness of your bed, its great isnt it? Just laying there, taking a break from such a long day at work. Now what else could ruin this blissful moment but having to wake up at five in the morning when its still dark outside? This is the case of million of high school kids nationwide, including myself. Right now in the state of Florida the first class of the day for high school students begins promptly at seven thirty in the morning, on the other hand middle school students begin at nine, almost two hours after. Fair? I think not! For very obvious reasons, not to seem selfish, high school students need plenty more time in the morning than middle school students.
I dont know about you but I need a ton of sleep at night, if not be prepared to see a side of me that will irritate the hell out of anybody. On top of that its definitely not healthy to not get enough sleep: it causes stress, aggressiveness, problems with behavior, learning, and body developmentÐÐwhat else can I say? This list can go on and on. By altering our schedule from seven thirty to nine in the morning not only would we have time to sleep we would also feel much more prepared for class.
Anyways what could be so terrible from adjusting our schedule from seven thirty to nine in the morning? What? Well have too much time to sleep? Well be more alert in class? Well get good grades? Or maybe we wont fall asleep in class? I know for a fact that when you get enough sleep at night your able to work at the best of your capacity. Take me as an example: when I dont get enough rest I feel so beat up, not literally, and for some reason cannot for any motive concentrate on anything, like if I had just gotten ADD, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. This is the exact opposite from when I do get to sleep: I feel energized, like if I had just drank a cup of coffee and can just absorb all kinds of information, like a sponge. Just think about all these kids ready to learn, energized, alert and entirely awakeÐ…..how can anyone not want to change the school schedule?
Over 30% of high school students nationwide have jobs; they have twice the responsibility of having to balance a job and good grades at the same time. Maybe thats why the dropout rate within seniors increases; its extremely stressful to take care of so much, especially with such little
