Major issue
Currently its rather controversial that with the salary cap structure, how to divide the leagues fund of $850,000 to both motivate the six players and prevent them from breaking contracts to go and play in another league.
Specific recommendations
If Im the head coach of Ottawa Voyageurs, I will conduct a strict audit to determine the salary cap of my league. Because of the limited amount and in a move to balance the revenue gap, I would like to set six levels for these six members as follows:
Massimo Taranto with $180,000
Massimo is considered the best midfielder. Hes qualified, experienced and of course very famous. Motivating him equals generating the whole team. Sometimes the team needs a leader to guide and trigger a battle on the field. It is necessary to award the player with positive influence higher than others.
Bin Wang with $150,000
He is a high-performed FWD. He joined the team for quite a long period of time and scored the second most. He is no doubt the main force of the team. Whats more, hes from China and has ever played in Vancouver. Higher compensation might help to stimulate his harder work in future.
Alex Bean with $125,000
Act as a powerful backbone of the team, Alex is honest and has the sense of responsibility. He offered to give back a portion of his salary due to the bad performance. He is aware of his mission and duty. He deserves his salary.
Mario Lopez with $110,000
Mario is a promising midfielder. His spirited energy can inspire others in the team. He has just joined at 23 buy already done some impressive works. With high hopes, he must have caused attention of other leagues. So far, he hasnt played in other professional teams. High salary should be part of attractive factors to extend his stay.
Steve Lindloff with $110,000
Steve is the youngest and newly joined. He did not scored much in 2002 season. I believe that $105,000 is a reasonable price for hiring him. Too much higher salary could damage the teammates goodwill and harmonious atmosphere. Although he might be definitely motivated, it will probably cause other players envy.
Carl Rodgers with $60,000
As a forward, Carl did not perform well enough as public expected. Being 31, hes not as young and competitive as others. For most of the time in 2002, he rested much and contributed little. Many players would feel unfair and discouraged if he gets too much compensation.
By agreements, theres still $115,000 left which I would recommend to put into the capital flow of extra bonus. Base year compensation prevents
